I haven't yet decided how I feel about McLellan as coach yet, but the multi-year deal was an absolute necessity, whether he works out or not. Wings are rebuilding, and they can't afford to have a coach that makes decisions to boost the short term in order to get a contract, at the expense of the long-term. He needs to know he's not a temp in order to focus on the future, not this year. This year is lost. We have 2.5 NHL caliber defensemen and that's not changing this year.

This is an upgrade but I still believe Gerard Gallant would have been a better pick. But overall still happy. Now we need to somehow get rid of Gus the worst defenceman in the NHL

Watching ASP play the WJC, and read the ticker.

Todd Mac is more of a throw-back, but not so much that he’s forgotten what it takes to win: use the talents of the kids to help refine game plans & schemes. I lile this move because he knows how to be tough, but also how to read the team. That being said, I was leaning toward Gallant or someone like him because I think the team needs a stern wake-up call. What’s going to seal the deal will be who replaces Boughner. Regardless, over-due but glad it done.

ASP’s have a decent game in WJC, can’t wait to see him in NA at the end of the shl Season (stated with crossed finger)…..

I like this move....Alot!! Reason being at least Todd has some experience as a bench boss. If I'm not mistaken, the last three HC's were first timers...???

Yeah, exactly one active coach hired 2008 or later has more wins than he does, so yeah, you are correct.

Hey Mike! ASP is the star of the game so far for sure. The announcers can't get enough of him. Nice apple on the first goal, followed by a beauty one timer for the 2nd. I like this kid!

Just a “catch all”. I’m good with McClellan. No clue how it pans out, but hoping this is a wake up call. Boughner out too means new voice for D.

ASP is all over the ice today. Goal and an assist, 8:45 after 2min, and at least 5 or 6 shots in the 2nd. Can’t find the ticker

Very surprised this happened prior to seasons end but feel the change was needed for sure. Time will tell if the new coach can right the ship & get the ‘rebuild’ back on track. LGRW!!!

Trent Yawney ran the PK and backend with the LA Kings under McLellan.

It's nice that on the broadcast, the players being talked about most by the hosts are ASP and Augustine as the two biggest stars of the tournament.

McLellan is the experienced coach the Rd Wings need now. However, this team is going nowhere this year and should start selling before the end of Janurary.

I really don’t think this was the right hire at the right time.
Yes both Lalonde and Boughner had to go long ago, but this team doesn’t have the talent and Scotty wouldn’t win with this bunch. This season is a lost one so why not let an assistant coach take over on an interim basis for the rest of this miserable season and wait to see what coaches might be available come June.
It’s not like McLellan’s phone was ringing off the hook. Coach Q and others are still attainable and that availability pool will surely grow by season’s end.
Coach McLellan has won squat in his 16+ year career apart from a president’s trophy and a third runner-up to the Jack Adams Trophy, and we know the curse both of those awards carry .
So it is printed, McLellan was signed to a multi year contract with no details released that I could find. Knowing Yzerman and the newly turned frugal ownership, dollars to donuts says it was a spartan two year contract.
I’ve just got a bad feeling about this one . As bad as this team is, just ask yourselves, is McLellan truly good enough to bring some respect back to this organization in the midst of a rebuild.
I am truly weary.

Auggie’s having a bit of a rough game, but he tracks the puck VERY well. Needs some work, but I like what I see, for sure. Am watching Plante to see how he plays; again, a kid but he’s fast and tenacious.

For those not sure about McLellan; he’s got upwards of a 63% win-rate. Is he going to change the trajectory of the club and guide us to the SCF? No. BUT, he IS going to establish a scheme that fits the team, we’ll be better-coached, and help responsible. Players will buy IN or buy a TICKET outta here. Yes, we have some crap contracts but we also have kids that are solid and getting better. Todd Mac is going to be ok, he served under BabCROCK so he knows how NOT to treat players. I think it’ll be ok. This team will get better, the sense of complacency will go away quickly, leaders will step up, and we’ll FINALLY see some improvement. Again, NOT SCPO-bound this year, but we’re going to see a better team.

It’s time. Waited too long, IMO. BUT, I’m excited to see what happens, he’s been successful, been in the organization before, knows the legacy, will honor HockeyTown.

You have absolutely no idea as to McLellan's future availability. He's a proven coach with a winning record. More importantly, Yzerman knows him well and obviously believes in him. A change was definitely in need. I like the choice.

I keep envisioning that first big hit. As tall as Eddy is he’s taken some damage already. I think the AHL is actually more physical at times. More hits for the sake of hitting. Love this kid, really want to see him at the end of the year.

He’s fast, like stupid-quick feet. Might help him avoid some hits, but you’re right…..he’s gotta fatten up a bunch. I was that Hughes boy, he does well avoiding hits but I’ve seen him get hit so hard his grandkids will have TBI. It’ll be something to watch…..but y’all; He. Is. Good.
