good blog as usual sir.

I agree on Carrier, to be honest besides saving some cap space I'm not quite sure what NSH was trying to accomplish with that trade.

tks Hugo,
agreed on Carrier, excellent trade for Mtl. I did mention him last July as a potential acquisition on the UFA market. really happy to see him as a Habs.
expect Primeau to be waived tomorrow and sent to Laval.
best wishes to you too

A lot of their projects have not been working all that much so far (Barron, Newhook, Dach), but in the case of Dach it might be a case of missing a full year.

I like the Laine trade a lot, it gives the fans something to look for and hes still a young player.

Hutson is fun to watch and they have a few good prospects coming up next season (Demigod, Hague, Backer par un rein).

They just need to keep focusing on the draft and hoping those guys will turn into something. The more they have picks and pick early, the better.

... continued from last thread ...

I'm not sold on Newhook either ... "smallish" bottom 6 player, easily replaceable IMO. I think he'll probably let go at some point in the future.

yep, I expect him to take Dvorak's spot on the 3rd line next year, and eventually be replaced by Hage.

I think they want to get younger. Trotz said something about a rebuild on the fly.

So I guess they are hoping Barron will be better in Nashville, same way Mtl took a chance on him out of Colorado. 1st round picks get more opportunities than others players chosing in laters rounds.

I like Evans a whole lot more than Newhook ... I'm sure HuGo will give him a new contract next summer.

I read he is on a 50 points pace and could be looking for 4 or 4,5 mill a year. That could be tricky for mtl, cause that might very well be an anomaly in his career.

Carrier is only 28, that doesn't really make sense to me. perhaps they were just looking to shake things up without making any huge blockbuster trades, they stink so bad this year they seem to be all out of answers.

agreed with your assumption. they also save some cap money for a future move.

I have to say, I have absolutely no faith in Nashville turning their current core of players into a contender anytime soon.

Stamkos and Marchesseault were not what they needed and Barron won't help them aside from the cap relief.

Time will tell if I'm right but I'd be very worried if I was a Preds fan.

I'm glad Montreal picked up Carrier in the process.

Barron is younger and yes, cheaper.

Like you said, it opens the door for them to make others moves.

I did not expect them to win the cup but dead last? Oh boy

the scout who drafted Carrier in Nashville talked about the trade on BPM after it happened, he wasn't aware of the management's logic behind it and sounded very disappointed they let him go lol

to be honest you're here all the time but unless I'm mistaken you barely watch any hockey these days, so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't read it, I doubt that what's going on in habs land interests you all that much lol.

Safe bet Savard is gone at the deadline? Not sure they will get a good return for him

But that would open up a spot for Struble.
