Kane is a cancer, and past his prime. Avoid at all costs.

Here's a thought

Leaf's place Matthews on LTIR, sign Brock Nelson and Ivan Pro or Savard and no salary retained. then go after another 3rd line center. (of course there will be 3rd round trades also involved

I remember all the talk about the Rangers needing to sign Kane again after his surgery thinking his career would be back in full swing if the surgery went well. So far he has 6 goals and is -7 in 31 games. He's 36 and on a team that's near the bottom like Buffalo. How would he help Buffalo? Out of the 14 wins Detroit has, only 4 are against any real winning teams. Kane had a goal against just 2 of those teams, both power play goals. the rest are against other struggling teams.

The idea of getting him to improve your team simply vanishes the moment you go up against more capable teams.

So Kane is going to waive his NTC to go from one non contender to another. He’s not thinking of any attainable performance bonuses (500k for playing 60 games and 500k for making the playoffs). Another scenario could be he wants to be in the playoffs. Detroit could do better with a deadline deal. Although going from Detroit nightlife to Buffalo nightlife reinforces his toned down party boy image.

The only plus for Buffalo and Kane would be in Merch sales and more butts in the seats. But the on-ice performance would be about the same.

I think Kane has a NTC of some kind. So, he controls where he goes. And I don't see him going to Buffalo. If he wanted to, he could've gone last year or this year as a UFA.And lately, he's been picking up his game. Had a goal and assist last night. If he does agree to a trade, it would be to a contender.
