Mac's genius challenge and positioning breakaway Berggren in the box gave Detroit the late lead they needed to win the game!

Just 4 pts out of a WC spot and only 5 teams to leap (or crawl) over!

Definitely didn’t feel like a genius challenge, but it was an amazing ending. Two 1 on 0 goals for a player that needed that. That diving pass by Motte was just a beauty. The whole day has been crazy close hockey and some pretty big stuff going on. It was fun and the team just looks like they are having a good time right now. Pretty cool

The decision to leave Berggren in GR all of last season shows how bad LaLonde / Yzerman's decision making was. Rumor is that LaLonde didn't think Berggren's defensive game was good enough. He was also waiver exempt last year which basically sealed his fate. So they pretty much wasted a full year of his prime years being in GR. When you have a thorough bred you let him run... and play his game. Which he's now doing in spades with the confidence to go with it. He's now 24 years old. Bad asset management.

Another case of sitting a great prospect in the AHL while the crappy veterans take his job. Dinosuar mentality of always being deferential to the veterans. Thank goodness the new coach has arrived and has a much better assessment of talent on this team.

I finally watched the game from last night earlier today. This wholeover-ripening concept can be very mis-guided. Some guys need it. Guys like Johnny Burgers don't. So, yeah - bad asset manageme t anf the kid probably has a sour taste in his mouth. Regardless, he's showing his wares, and I believe H2 commented several times about how good this kid could be given the chance.

I think we're gonna see some changes in personnel & how they're deployed because Mac's not a guy to sit idly by and let things go unsaid - AND he's in pretty good with The Captain, so he's gonna stand in the breach for what he believes in. Think that's going to have a good impact on the team and the players.

Bottom line: I think we're scratching the surface of change. Now, ifJohansson can get his game in order he could ve more of an impact player for this team going forward.

I'm still seeing some bad habits/old habits that Yawney & Mac need to fix but the defense is heads n shoulders above the mess they were a couple of weeks ago.

I think we are watching the maturation of a team and folks are going to take notice. Good things ahead. Finally.

Johansson is the probably the 3rd / 4th best defenseman on this team. Petry, Gustaffson and Holl are crap. He's ready for primetime now... but dumb LaLonde kept him off the ice way too much because he always preferred the vets. I think McClelland will give him more opportunity and he'll take somebody else's job without a doubt. He's a solid defensive defenseman. It's only a matter of time.

Berggren is barely an NHL player. 9pts in 36 games and has a lack of defensive ability. He has always been a minus player in the NHL. Oh, and his fancy stats verify this as well. DRW would do better to trade him in a package for a better player.

The kid has talent... and he's proving it now. Trading him this early in his career is insane. Way too early. Give him a full season in the NHL with a good coach who lets him play to his offensive strengths / potential. He doesn't have to be a great two way player to be valuable (he's winger, not a center). He can still learn to play better defensively. This team is starving for offense and he can provide that. Let him play with some good linemates in the top 6 and see what happens... not stuck on the 4th line like LaLonde often did. Even if you did want to trade him... you do it when his value is high, right now it's just starting to go up. This team needs to get younger RIGHT NOW so let him play.
