Leafs could use your input when the playoffs hits. They usually somehow start a slump when the season ends and it sticks with them.

Hey Gibby:
It would be great if you added your thoughts on the game. The stats are interesting, but we can get those anywhere.
Thanks - Atomic Wedgie
Wedgiesies,
I have it on very good authority that all we should be discussing on HB is the standings.
Please refrain from fraternizing and stick to the allowable topic. |

Just looking at the standings, and here's a crazy stat for youse guyz:
The Leafs only have two OT losses so far.
That's crazy-low for a team that is usually so Leafy that they named the term "Leafy" after them. |

Leafs are my pick to come out of the East this year.
There I said it. Call your bookie. (GS5).
I'm not gonna get crazy and say plan the parade.
But, we are almost half way through the season and the sample size is big enough to validate the eye test. These Leafs are for real. It's the realest they've been in the Tavares era. They are as good as anyone in the East.

I think Boston is in trouble this year. They’ll be in that big pile of teams fighting for those 2 wildcard spots.
Tampa only 3 points behind them with 5 games in hand. |

Yuppers.
As Wedgie has said many times, Reaves will discourage cheap plays against the leafs.
Wedgie has been very adamant about that.
He loves his toughness. |

Matthews has missed a bunch of time, Stollarz too, Jarny hasn't even laced 'em up, and we're still tops in the division. This year is different. Just gotta get the PP going, and keep doing what we're doing.

It's going to be a wacky finish for the final wildcard.
If you look at the standings by win%, not points, the Bruins currently hold the #7 spot, and are on pace for 88 points.
The Senators have the #8 spot, currently on pace for 86 points.
But there's so many teams who are crappy, but still so close.
Habs are on pace for 82 points.
Penguins are on pace for 82 points.
Columbus is on pace for 82 points.
Flyers are on pace for 80 points.
Red Wings are on pace for 80 points.
Rangers are on pace for 78 points.
Islanders are on pace for 76 points.
And just for fun, Sabres are on pace for 68 points.
That's 9 teams (sorry, Buffalo) that still have a very good shot at 2 final spots.
And the opposite side of the coin:
If we are projecting 86 points to be the final wildcard, the Leafs only need to have a 16-23-2 record over the 2nd half of the season to total 88 points. That's one point worse than the Sabres over their first half of the season.

The fact they are where they are despite Fatty Matty missing what 15 games, Stollie going down / after Will going down does make me feel better then in prior years.
Maybe because I care less about the regular season now but the way they have played also makes me feel a lot more (dare I say it) confident in them.
I remember in prior years they were in great positions standings wise but there were obvious flaws they were covering up with (usually) the old “outscore your problems” strategy. I don’t see that this year - they have got tremendous goaltending which has helped with some flaws but it FEELS to me like a lot less reliance on that that the reliance on outscoring their problems in prior years.
They are winning “playoff type / style” games this year - can’t say they were consistently doing they in the past few years.
Guess we will see what the 2nd half brings - GO MF LEAFS GO!!!! 💙💙💙

I do love my toughness.
Which begs the question: Why not leave Robertson in?
He has as many fights as Reaves does this year. |
