So the Flames are in a playoff spot right now. Team chemistry is great. Kadri has a NMC and has said he loves the city and the organization. The Flames have no urgency to trade Kadri since he is signed for 3 more years after this.
But somehow, the Flames might blow up their season and try to move him? And one potential destination is Pittsburgh who are big time buyers despite being 2nd last in the East?
This all seems very backwards to me. Pittsburgh will be sellers. The Flames will likely be buyers. The teams could even be good trading partners. Flames might like to add a rental like Grzelcyk or Pettersson.

100% He has come out in the media now & wanting Flames to add for a push into the playoffs. No way Conroy spends assets on rentals & anything he does give will need to be a longterm acquisition. But he is definitely not going to subtract from the team & will let them take their shot. Only reason Flames are even in this spot is the good ship Wolf. That kid has been simply unbelievable.
The only deals I see is where Conroy weaponizes the cap space to try to acquire some assets(picks) & takes on a contract to give a contending or wanna contend team cap space to make bolder moves & upgrade. Whatever player we do that with will wind up probably being an upgrade in the way a depth rental would be. So kind of cake & eat it too. Cap space will be in demand as we start approaching the end of Feb. & the arms race begins to heat up.
