The Canucks played a low-event game in this respect last season creating the fewest rush chances of any team but also allowing the fewest.

Despite creating so few chances, they scored the 6th most goals off the rush (69). Vancouver scored on just over 25% of its shots off-the-rush. 5 percentage points better than anyone else and 8 percentage points better than league average (17%).

Defensively, the Canucks allowed the fewest chances and second fewest goals. Vancouver finished with an .855 save % on rush shots - 3rd best in the league.

Offensively, it was an outlier bound to regress (it has) but defensively, the process was strong and results more or less followed.

This season, regression offensively and a sharp drop defensively have played a part in their drop off from last season.

Vancouver is once again last in rush chances but have regressed to league average in scoring on their looks, doing so on 17.2% of their rush shots - league average is 16.9%. Vancouver is 32nd in rush chances and 28th in goals

Defensively, the Canucks are 19th in rush chances against and last in goals against. The Canucks have gone from an .855 rush save % (3rd last season) to .771 - only Pittsburgh is worse.

The Canucks are about to play their 44th game of the season and have already allowed as many goals off-the-rush as they did last season (43).

Vancouver’s rush goal differential last season, +26. This season, -16. That puts the Canucks on pace for a -31 rush goal differential which would be a 57 goal swing from last season, just looking at goal differential in this one facet of the game.

That, more than anything stands out to me when looking at the differences in team performance from last season to this season.
