Supposedly a 3 team deal. Taylor Hall also going from Chicago to Carolina. |

My first thought. The salary retention alone is a 3rd.
My second thought was i guess Rantanen wasn't willing to take less than Mckinnon. |

I like Colorados and on this. They get two real good players for one great one. Necas could be almost as good as Mikko with McKinnon. And Drury is a very good 3C
Chicago got bullied by two better teams. They didn’t get enough for a huge retainment and a player, albeit one that is on his last legs.
Canes took a huge risk imo |

I wonder if JT Miller to the Canes is still possible? That was an E4 so it must have been close. Maybe Rantanen to Vancouver for Miller and Desharnais. Canes need to get tougher to beat Florida. |

Yeah, you know what, one cup was good enough for this core. Thanks, MacFarland. I'd say I have no idea how you still have a job, but obviously this must have been a decision by committee. At least I don't have to be worked up and excited for the playoffs. |

Chicago takes half of Rantanens salary but gets rid of Halls, as I understand it, so they get about 2 mil in cap space and a 3rd rnd pick. |

I don't think Chicago got fleeced. Chicago is loaded with prospects and Hall wasn't coming back anyway. The salary that Chicago is retaining is about the same ($1,000,000) as what they would have paid Hall ($800,000). They were going to have to pay Hall anyway if they didn't trade him and now this opens up a spot. |

Wonder if another trade is going down between Vancouver, NYR and Chicago. Seth Jones sat tonight of that is a clue. |

The 3rd round pick is Chicago’s own, so it will likely be one of the top 2 picks that round. Moving Hall early gets a jump on the race for the 1st overall pick. And, they now have the cap space to possibly help facilitate another trade before the deadline. |

Unknown grade - I question if the deal might be another Guentzel deal for Carolina unless they can lock him up. I don't see them paying 14 million plus for him (which is his estimated value in free agency).
I like the deal for Colorado grade it a B+. They unload a player they know they can't afford after this season while getting some young talent back and picks (which they will probably use at the deadline).
*Maybe the picks allow them to jump in the Brock Nelson sweepstakes?
Chicago I grade it a B - They only took on some cap space and unloaded a player they were shopping. |

I guess Rantanen, Necas, and Drury can be removed from the rumour chart now. Oh wait. A trade like this doesn't happen overnight and would have been weeks in the making. But the inside sources had Canes talking to Vancouver for Miller and the Hawks talking about Seth Jones when all they did was weaponize some cap space for an early 3rd. |
