Leafs should have, see Mariner could of still been re-signed in the off season by Leafs where Rantanen will not be signed by Carolina be cause the owner is TO DAMN CHEAP!! Look at Genzal from last year, now playing in Tampa!

Marner's NMC will almost prevent this from happening.

Marner has a NMC. Rantanen didn't. Pretty simple.

Also, Marner will sign a long term extension. Just like Nylander did. Nothing to see here.

Rantanen is a better player than Marner. He's also bigger and stronger than Marner. Mikko fits more of the mold of what the Canes were looking for, so no, the Leafs couldn't have given the Avs what they wanted IMO.

Dear god, no. Marner is a Selke caliber forward, and considerably more valuable overall than Rantanen. I like that Colorado had the balls to do this, but the return isn’t great. If Leafs move Marner, I would hope it’s for a better package than what the Avs just got

I mean I know it's close with necas having a career high of 71 points while marner has passed 80pts 4 - 5 times, but i don't know...you might be on to something.
