Many here, and many on The Atlantic boards, rip Drury. But how many are going to give him some credit here? He was able to take Trouba off the roster, something the fan base has screamed about for two years, and replaced him with someone making half the salary. And everyone screamed about Goodrow’s salary, and again Drury replaced him with someone with the same makeup, making less than half the salary. Was Goodrow’s contract an overpay? Well, yes—but so was Coleman’s and Goorde’s. Everyone wanted a piece of Tampa’s third line, seeing those players as necessary pieces of a championship team. And those players were overpaid.

I like borgen but think deal is a bit rich. If he continues at a top 4 pace it will age well. If he regresses to a bottom pair not so much

What are some negative things said about Drury that you disagree with

Welcome aboard the genius train

He’s going to have critics because of the Buch trade, because this season went off the rails with the Trouba situation and now Kakko trade. But they were necessary trades which those fans just can’t accept

Btw to the Buch lovers out there, he has been pretty pedestrian for awhile now. Really since last year. Well under a PPG. And now he’ll be making 8 million a year. Crisis everted perhaps

So after finally getting rid of 2 overpriced player and knowing the hardship and problems it cost this team, stupid Drury goes out and gives a 5 year contract to a player who is 28yo and has played 15 games for us. This wont age well

Goodrow was brought in to be the player in the playoffs, which he produced. Yes he was overpaid during the regular season, while playing with a broken jaw, but scored 6 goals in the playoffs while playing 4th line minutes. So he did his job.

Drury is an idiot.

All the teams we want to lose are getting points
- picklerick

My take on this is actually we shouldn't care about all these other playoff bubble teams getting points. The only way I want us to make the playoffs is if we get absolutely scorching hot on our way to getting in (see Blues, 2019). If we barely make it in I doubt we're doing any damage, just look at those teams fighting for the playoffs in the East so desperately last year. So we might as well have all these other teams keep winning (which they're bound to do anyways) in case we don't make it in. We would get a higher pick, that would benefit us in the long-run.

Just my thoughts/two cents as I try and evaluate this resurgence.

Idiot is strong. I will say it's a questionable move with the jury far out on how it will play out. Could be very positive or negative. I will say it's potentially a worthwhile risk but with material downside.

True it is strong but with the way he has handled this team this year, he blew it.

I dont see any upside to this 5 year deal

Goodrow may have been overpaid, but he did what he was brought in to do, provide an impact in the playoffs... and he did. Only to subsequently be treated like garbage and thrown to the curb. Very questionable move. Should have dumped Trouba first, then moved forward.

It’s like we don’t even realize they haven’t lost in 10 games

You guys are the only ones who aren’t over this by now. The Rangers are without a doubt over it

But let’s talk about it day after day still because Brukie brings it up

Good, bask in the regular season success they've been having the last 3 years.

What were talking about is very pertinent to the current situation because what's gonna happen in April and May? If you lose in the first round of the playoffs, wtf was the point? Guys built for the playoffs dont grow on trees.

But hey, lets hang another regular season banner. While were at it, lets hang a playoff participation banner.

2021-2022 & 2023-2024 Eastern Conference Finals Participants! That would look awesome in the MSG rafters.

He was overpaid at $3.6’mil given the cap. There is no question that he did what was hoped for in the playoffs. Problem is the cap hit was high for what he produced during the season especially if they couldn’t move Trouba. They tried to move him to no avail.

This is such a lame conversation to still be having. Go talk to your friends and family in real life about how much you hate or worship current GM of the Rangers Chris Drury. It's a conversation that's been had here a million times.
