Thanks Jan, great blog as usual.

It’s a hard loss to take because of the mistake at the end, but they played hard most of the game. For this season, that’s all I can ask for. They looked terrible for a lot of the season but if they put forth the effort, I can get behind them. A month ago I wanted a lottery ticket, but there is at least a little hope now.

aecliptic, I can’t believe you are allowed to post here. You aren’t a real fan. You don’t even have Reilly Smith’s postseason stats memorized!!!

Realistically looking at the Wild card standings, Ottawa has been hot recently, but they don’t have enough scoring. Tampa probably finishes 3rd in the Atlantic, they can score and still have Vasilevskiy.
The Devils have been struggling recently, but I’d guess that’s a blip. They’re fast, can obviously score and defend now with Markstrom. Also have great special teams.
Hard to see the Rangers finishing in the top 3.
Columbus is legit this year. I think Columbus, NYR and Boston have a close finish for the Wild card with Boston missing.

I loved the effort and them not giving up. I hated the ending but crap happens and Borgen will learn from it. I know they aren't winning the cup or even being a threat to win it, but, the next few months will keep me invested. Playoffs or not. Oh, and I DO NOT WANT JT MILLER ON THIS TEAM

Definitely sucked loosing but I would rather have a loss with this type of effort, compared to what we saw in December and November.

Ottawa is in 3rd place, only 6 points behind and have a game in hand over the Leafs who are first in the Atlantic. Except for Buffalo, are there are any teams in the East thinking they don't have a shot.

Miller the exact style player they need. His age and contract are a problem and why I would not want him on the team. Not the right time

See, I disagree. I don’t think we have enough guys with “attitude” problems. You know, the types that call our teammates and give a damn. Our leaders are a bunch of softies that just collect a pay check, Zib Kreider Panarin etc.

Yeah, but there's a world of difference between trying to encourage your teammates to give more and getting fed up with them, or your situation and playing like you want a change. I feel like we've seen the latter from Miller, more than once now. We seem to have gotten through our locker room issues, I don't want to see more.

The trade debate involving JT Miller will only intensify here in the coming days. I think how the NYR fare vs Boston in these two games before the 4 Nations will determine whether they pull the trigger on such a deal or if they wait until the summer.

I don’t think Miller is going to get traded. It seems they are pushing more to trade Patterson at this point since he will bring back more value

The one possible counter to this is that Trocheck is his best friend. Clearly he has been the one to take on that role. JTM may not feel the need to step up like he has felt in Vancouver. None of us really know what went on there or if its overblown. Its been reported that its multiple players who don't like him and Quinn Hughes doesn't seem to be the type that will be assertive. I'm hoping Vinny takes that pressure off JT in that regard. Probably a reach on my part but there is no denying, they need an bumhole on the ice to be on their side for a change.

Yeah, that sounds like that's the approach. In which case, you love the skill but he is more of what the NYR don't need in terms of mindset. And would cost way more. No trade protection for EP until 7/1 while JTM has full control and all of the leverage.

Agreed.
Petterson is too much like Panarin. And, I am already trying to bring my emotions under control about having a superstar that only cares about scoring. The way he gave up on the backcheck yesterday after being the guy to cough up the puck absolutely infuriates me. Between that and the fact that he seems to be trying to develop a style of play that keeps him within 5 feet of either the blue line or the boards (excepting corner boards!) at all times, and I am close to out of hope.
If Bread tries to play that way in the playoffs (again) nothing anyone else does will make enough of a difference.

The mistake he made was overextending his shift. He has to know better and understand that preserving the point is first and foremost. 4 of the 5 man PP unit was off. He should have been too and was gassed and the terrible backcheck followed. Totally selfish on his part and it cost them at least 1 point and maybe 2. I was so sick as was every NYR fan in the universe!

Did anyone realize that Bread was on the ice for the entire 2 min power play at the end of the game? He was completely gassed and didn’t have anything left to get back. You want to direct your ire to anyone direct it to Borgen, who should have the wherewithal to know not to pass the puck across ice in that situation. The awareness in that situation needs to be better especially from someone who just signed a brand new 5 year deal.

Yes, there are multiple things that went wrong on that play. Bread DOES need to get off the ice which led to the gassed back check. And he wasn't out for the 2 min. They called a timeout but gassed for sure. Borgen 100% needs to be aware of the situation and hyper aware of who it is coming out of the box. Igor needs to be banging his stick on the ice, the bench needs to be yelling that the penalty is over. And before that, this PP1 is terrible now. They're predictable and Mika has lost his way completely. If JTM were to come in, the first thing I'd do is take CK/MZ off and replace with JTM and Laf.
