Eklund: Kirill Kaprizov Out Four Weeks, Undergoing Surgery, Rumors Coming Up.

Four weeks from Friday would be Feb.28 which is before the TDL. This isn’t a Kucherov or Stone scenario. The Wild have to put Brodin or Kaprizov on LTIR just to bring someone up. The only good thing here is the Feb.9-21 shutdown.

This isn't how the cap works. If Kaprizov is out for 4 weeks it doesn't meaningfully make any difference for Minny's cap situation. If he is out for the rest of the regular season and returns for the playoffs then that is a major news story.

Feels like this misinterpretation happens over and over. Like how the Oilers can go shopping when McDavid missed a week. Or Toronto can add a big piece since Matthews was on IR. It doesn't work like that.

If I were Billy G. I'd have said 4 weeks even if he's expected to be out longer...for no other reason than to keep the cap hit contraversy to a minimum. We'll wait and see if he has any convenient 'setbacks' in his recovery come TDL time.

They have now put Brodin on retroactive LTIR just to be able to call up a body for the rest of their road trip. Like we both said, they can’t use his 9 Mil to make a move.

Specifically because weeks doesn't equate to games. We are about to enter the 4 nations period where no NHL games will be played. The Wild will play 10 games in that stretch, so it's not as much cap space as if it were, say, 4 weeks in March where they'll play 14 games in a similar amount of time.

Anyway. Plenty of options where a team will eat salary if you give them good enough pick.
