Underwhelming return for the Flyers, but I'll hold judgment until I see more.

Interesting to see how Kuz and Torts are going to work.

As of right now the Flames. Got the two best players in the trade. Things could change depending on what else happens. The move does get Flyers closer to a top 5 pick i believe. My hope is Kuzemenko plays well and then is flipped at TDL for more picks/prospect. Flyers have ammo with 7 picks in first 2 rounds of draft.

As of now the Flames.

Tough to name a winner?

A 29 yr old pending UFA who has 4 goals and is making 5 plus million a year and has now worn out his welcome in two NHL organizations in 3 years…..a 23 yr old AHL/NHL tweener whom just cleared waivers…..and was passed over by the entire NHL including Briere who could of had him for free….Plus a 2nd rnd pick.

For

Two established but inconsistent mid 20 players who will score between 18-25 goals a year and may flourish now that they have left the culture builder Torts behind.

If it’s not a salary dump then Briere’s incompetence matches only that of his predecessor Chuck Fletcher.

Seems to be an easy winner here.

Flames get a 25 year old 40 point C, and 24 year old 50 point LW

Flyers get a cap dump, 23 year old former 1st round pick that they could have had on waivers for free, a 2nd and a 7th.

Flames win. Farabee is young and I still see him as someone who can max out at 60-70 points.

Briere gave away two good young NHLers for a few months of a 29 year old disappointment, a poor minor leaguer and a late 2nd round pick in a weak draft. The only saving grace is that Briere didn’t give away any first round picks getting this ridiculous deal done.

In a vacuum this trade just doesn’t look like a good one for the Flyers. However, there are things we don’t know that may make more sense later. I’m hoping that this is a move that will make sense later on, but I’m not giving GMDB the benefit of the doubt. He has to prove that this trade makes sense.

If you took a poll it would be more lopsided than the "Did the Bills get a 1st down" poll that was on the internet after the Chiefs game.

Sportsnet and I quote:

“Following a very lengthy search for a 23 to 25-year-old centre his club could grow with, the Calgary Flames' patient general manager pulled the trigger on a shockingly attractive deal Thursday night that should help the team now and down the road.”

So there’s that perception from the outside.

I don't care about either of these teams but from an outsider perspective it just looks like a bunch of underachieving crap changing hands.

If people (the ones the flames got) who were drafted that high 6 and 7 years ago haven't figured it out by now....they're not gonna.

Tough to name a winner when you don't even touch on the key aspect for the Flyers...cap space!! They obviously don't like Farabee at $5M × 3 more years, while also needing to qualify Frost at $2M+. They dump both contracts for a guy who probably walks this summer and a prospect at league minimum. This is your home team and you're not seeing that?

Kuzmenko played with MM 4/5 years ago for 13 games. Not a really strong he played with him stance.

I guess it all depends on what the front office does with this cap space. Historically, the Flyers have to be one of the worst teams with regard the managing the cap.

Frost and Farrabee won this trade - they get away for a horrible head coach -- cant wait for both russian players to be placed in torts gulag for defensive lapses

Torts won this deal. He gets the hardest working guy since Pierre Luc Do-Nothing as well as a 7th round pick! You could find a stud like Ivan Fedotov in the 7th round!

The only positive I see from the Flyers end is that they (possibly) get an extra $7.1 million in cap space for next season. Of course that all hinges on if they resign Kuz and Pel. (Im not bothering to learn how to spell their names just yet.)

Kuz will obviously get a pay cut if they do decide to sign him, and Pel will get a small qualifying raise.

Either way, Calgary won this trade because they got the 2 best players in the deal. If Kuz somehow manages to find some of that 39 goal form playing with Michkov maybe it lessens the disparity a bit.

Hopefully the Flyers don't use that new found cap space to overpay for "Kevin Hayes" again.

For sure, except for having to pull up roots and move to a new country, they were by far the two happiest people in Philadelphia last night. Its a small price to pay to get away from Torts.
