Awful starts against Toronto and Colorado have put a question where it looked like we had a pretty good answer. I can't see Sgt Schultz staying with Edmonton's current tandem heading into the playoffs. |

What’s the return that gets the Oilers Dobson? |

I have no clue. The fact that he might be available raises questions for what value Lou places on him. I would think for the Oilers it the conversation doesn’t even starts unless a 1st and Savoie are on the table. |

thanks Sean, always great work.
Saying Dobson is "arguably" better defensively is a bit out there though...haha
Straight up Dobson for Bouchard would be fine by me, and then the money saved by Bouchard's balloon inflated valuation could be saved for someone else. I don't see many Dmen worse defensively than Bouchard and...well...that's the job isn't it? |

Why not toss in James Neal and Cambell while you are at it?

If you’re watching the game from the 90’s and early 2000’s sure. The best modern defensemen are the ones that keep the puck in the opposite end of the ice and outscore the opposition. That is something Bouchard does in spades. There are big giveaway moments that remain unacceptable that he needs to clean up but good blue lines are no longer about who hits the other side more. |

I agree with you. The thing is, it's NOT Bouchard, not at all, not even close. He's a very bad hockeyvplayer that makes poor decisions, even without pressure.
Nevermind the d-zone, which is a disaster!
He cannot keep the puck in the o-zone consistently (there goes THAT theory, lol).
His passes are so far off from his teammates tape or wheelhouse that it breaks up any momentum that they generate. The guys are constantly retreiving errant passes from Bouchard and regrouping.
He really does have an elite shot, but how many times has he smashed it into a teammate? Trust me when I tell you as the guy in the slot how p.o.'d we get at some dumb fk dropping bombs from the point that he can't control...he's really dumb Bouchard. He's done it a lot and keeps on doing it.
But the biggest tell is when his teammates look him off. They all do it and they do it a lot. Bouch is ready, he's open, he gets a look, but the puck doesn't come.
So are we really going to pay a guy elite money when his teammates don't trust him with the puck?
He is a D- in his own zone, but he's a C- in the o-zone and his teammates don't trust him. It's as plain as the day.

I'm actually sorry, and mean no disrespect, but I feel the need to comment again that you just said Evan Bouchard keeps the puck in the offensive zone "in spades".
Utter rubbish, he's one of the worst in the league at this. |

Analytically he's elite. When he's on the ice the oilers out shoot their opponents 2 to 1 and out of all the elite offensive dmen he allows the fewest goals. Makar has been scored on almost twice as many times this season. In a bad year he's still gonna score 60 points and have a +25. |
