Has there ever been a more overrated intangible player in Flyers history?

Seems to me the Flyers players are slotted appropriately on a team made up of Canada's best players

So what you are saying is Reinhart, Crosby, and MacKinnon can go into the corner and get the puck. But the other top 6 members - McDavid, Marner, and Stone aren't as good at that as Konecny. So therefore, Konecny should move up to replace one of them?

So move Marner down to the 4th line then? Or Mark Stone? Is that the idea?

Here is another take. Jon Cooper knows what he is doing. He didn't pick names out of a hat. McDavid knows Reinhart and is comfortable playing with him. Marner is the most skilled winger on the roster and can match his speed. Meanwhile, MacKinnon and Crosby train together all summer. Crosby has also played many times with Mark Stone who is a defensive specialist. They don't need Konecny on that line.

Cirelli and Hagel have the advantage of chemistry in a short tournament. Either Bennett or Konecny will rotate in on that line. You will probably see both guys in this tourney. That is all.

What a good POHO and GM would be asking themselves is the team significantly better today than when the coach and his staff was hired. The GM needs to factor in the fact that the roster isn't all that different.

The question then becomes how much growth these players have shown. Is this the ceiling for these players? Does another coaching staff bring these guys further?

To me this coaching staff has reached their ceiling with this roster. I do not see significant growth. Whether that is because the players are just what they are, the coaching, or a combination of both. Offensively I do not think they are getting the best out of the talent. Not sure how any POHO or GM can watch this style of play and think it is a winning approach. If they do and are on board then this organization is doomed as there are no checks and balances in place. Just look at who those 2 and the head coach have to answer to.

Just do not see a bright future at this time. It goes beyond the just the coaching. That is only 1 part of this systemic problem.

Flyers need to sever ties with this entire coaching staff and find a young innovative coach who can usher this franchise in to the modern NHL.

Its almost a chicken and egg scenario. No coach will be able to get anything out of this roster. They need elite talent to go along with it.

Briere possibly could have had this return for Laughton last year, but the locker room wasn't ready to move on from the guy who was the de facto captain the season before and was the the key player buying into what the organization was selling about building a culture that other players have since bought into as well, following his lead.

That championship culture that hasn't made the playoffs in going on 5 years, has had an historically bad pp, and may have finally bottomed out this year. That losing culture, because that's all they've done is lose with it, is something Stanley cup teams can't live without. That culture has helped develop a team so bad that they may accidently get the elite talent they need, not because of planning or intent, but because of incompetence.

Thus far in Tortorella's Flyers tenure, fans have been pleased with his "no excuses" mentality and universal player accountability.

Hathaway, Poehling, Seeler, Laughton all laugh at this statement. Tort's guys get way more rope than everyone else but if they keep pushing the company line long enough, the casual fan will believe it.

Michkov - Anyone else remember how Torts said he wasn't going to change Michkov? He was going to let him be his creative self? Yea, tons of laughs and feels like years ago now.

All that crap means NOTHING if you aren't winning. You get your face kicked in nightly, but hey you get up every time. Show a lot of heart only to get it kicked in again. Day after day, season after season. At some point you need to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Winning breeds culture. Losing breeds losing.

Interesting thought. Laughton AND Risto to Toronto? Wonder what that would look like if it ever happened.

Pure entertainment how DiMarco claims Risto is valued around the league, especially for playoff play.

Maybe one of these years he will indeed get to play in the playoffs.

The Spencer Carbery hire and success in Washington should be the model. Younger innovative coaches over the same retreads everyone hires.
