Trade talks are picking up with Rakell, Karlsson, Grzelcyk and the Rangers 1st round pick. All separate of course. Vancouver talking to us again about Rakell. I don't think we want to move Grzelcyk unless we get blown away by a deal

Not moving Grz is a mistake, he's a UFA setting career highs -- keeping him makes no sense.

Completely agree with this^^ If anything, I could see us keeping Rak until the summer where his value might be higher.

I kind of agree, but also the team already has more picks in the first 3 rounds over the next three years than anyone else. What would they get for him that would be worth it?

At least that's my devil's advocate side for anyone who isn't getting a good return. I do think they get enough for Gryz to make a deal.

I disagree here. Rak would instantly be the top goal scorer on the market. Best time to move him is now to a team desperate for more scoring for a play off run.

I'm fine keeping Rak if they don't get a big return, but I'd strike while the iron is hot if they get a big offer now.

Congrats to DOC on his new contract. Will be a bargain for Vancouver if he rebounds to even a decent third liner.

No regrets on the Pens end though because adding DOC is likely why they got a 1st.

Actual team talk! Geno and Rust full participants at practice. Geno was reportedly flying. Boko still day to day. Bennstrom and Blomqvist recalled with Jarry sent back down.

Right. I wouldn't move him unless we got a great offer, but I don't want picks. I want a really good prospect.

I personally want someone like Lekkerimaki coming back plus a 1st if we are trading Rak. If it's not a high prospect/young talent plus a top pick. I don't wanna move him

If the Canucks offered Lekkerimaki or Willander the Pens have to take it almost regardless of what else is included. They don't really have any right shot snipers unless you want to consider Tomasino having more upside.

I am kind of thinking this but another part of me wouldn't mind re-signing him. He has been decent and with Petts gone we will need another LD option.

Someone offers a 2nd and I take it, but if we are getting down to 4th/5th rounders it's a harder decision.

JR and Alvin are in a tough spot. They traded the better of their two disgruntled stars and may yet trade the other. Can't imagine they are going to trade a top prospect. They aren't even a sure thing to make the playoffs.

I think either of those prospects would be great for us, though I'm shy on trading Rackell as I still have a fantasy of rebuilding on the fly and competing next year.

They picked up Kolychonok. Sounds like they like him and will give him some looks. Graves heads back to the press box I guess.

Trade Gryz and get him back in UFA unless the other team extends him. I wouldn't mind keeping Gryz too, but I wouldn't think twice if someone makes a legit offer.

In a rebuild every asset matters. Every additional pick we get makes our other picks more expendable. We want to have the biggest possible war chest when opportunity knocks.

That is my take as well. If he is only going to land a 4th then you keep him. I think he is in the range of a 2nd/3rd round pick once teams get desperate and the bids start to come in. Which I would be ok with.

I wonder if some of the Rakell to Vancouver trade talks are still tied to the Elias Pettersson to Buffalo discussion. I know we were potentially a 3rd team in on that deal if it occurred (to try and land a younger talent from Buffalo). Then again we have the Rangers 1st which may be something of value to Buffalo.

It would be interesting if we landed some young talent from Buffalo and traded the Rangers 1st to Anaheim for additional young talent.

If they get a 2nd/3rd again -- I feel like that gives them the opportunity to package picks together for younger talent -- even if they aren't NHL ready, but maybe someone who's stuck in a logjam at a position in the AHL -- stocks the Baby Pens a bit more.

Do they really need another LD option with Pickering, POJ and Graves there? Trade him for assets, and just sign another guy from the bargain bin next year.

Shaping up to be a pretty interesting TDL for us. We have some decent pieces teams should want. EK (probably have to retain), Rak, Gryz, Bunting.

I'm not sure EK or Rak get dealt -- I think we'll see Gryz, Buea, maybe Bunting -- EK is a possibility but I think we'd have to eat some cap for that one.

Maybe Ned if he can put together some strong play but having that extra year on his deal, I'm not sure.

If they get a second or third for Gryz I 100% do that. A fourth I'm on the fence. Fifth or later I might not bother. Chalk it up to keeping a competitive atmosphere.

Since I'm not sure if they want to recall Pickering, I don't know that he's blocking anyone.

They need to resolve the goal tending logjam and get Murashov back in the AHL. Would love to dump one of the vets, but if not, I'd deal Larsson for something.
