I wonder if Vancouver could be a potential spot for Karlsson. They are very aggressive in trade talks. I know they checked in on Rakell a few times. I think any team who can limit Karlsson's defensive responsibility and unleash him offensively will have a very good player. You know the opposite of how we use him - 123Kid
I said this a couple of months ago. The Pens (players and coach) never learned how to work with EK. It's mostly on Sullivan. Instead of coming up with strategies for the players he has, he'll try to mold the players into how he wants them play. It doesn't work that way for "high end" players.
I had no idea Graves didn't have a point until last night. What a trainwreck he turned out to be. He's f'n awful.

I do wonder if Graves, Jarry, Karlsson and others would play better for a new coach. |

Apparently the Canucks have offered Boeser a 5x$8M aav deal, which Boeser has not accepted. Apparently they are going back with one final offer before deciding what to do with him.
To me, this is a major impact for the Pens. I don't think Vancouver will use him as an own rental. If they do trade him I really feel we see a 3 way trade with Rackell headed to the Nucks.
I don't think this one goes down to the deadline, I think Vancouver probably knows what they can get for Boeser and they have probably know what Rackell will cost. Should be an interesting week ahead. |

Tomasino is on pace for 23 goals and 41 points over an 82 game season during his time with the Pens. Not bad for a guy that's seen the bulk of his time on the third line. |

I would rather have Rakell instead of Boeser. Maybe in free agency I would consider Boeser (even though I am not a fan), but I definitely would not give up any assets for him. |

I am definitely pleasantly surprised by him. I'm hoping Dubas could land another few assets similar to him at the deadline (young change of scenery type who can come cheap). I also hope Dubas can trade the Rangers first round pick for a very good young talent. I still think McTavish makes the most sense. |

Playing most of his time on the 3rd line, but half of his points have come on the power play. He was a nice pickup, crazy to think he is in his 4th season already and still only 23. Looks like a good 3rd line scoring option for us long term |

Hearing the rumors of the LA Kings potentially making Byfield available in trade talks does make me wonder. I know they were someone to check in for Rakell. Byfield would 100% fit what we were looking for a young talent. I know we were focusing in on trying to get a young center or 2.
Edit: PS I know this was previously discussed here. |

I never understand pro teams that try to be in two camps at the same time. As in trying to "rebuild/retool" but also trying to be "competitive".
I'm a fan of Dubas as a GM but I feel he's made some missteps in Pitts.
Capitals have done a good job of retooling on the fly. Pens need to learn who they are and move stuff like the capitals did with Orlov a few years ago. Just move guys out and use those assets to bring in younger players. |

He’s not trying to be competitive anymore. He tried one kick at the can his first year, it didn’t work and he completely shifted the path of the ship to collect assets and draft picks. |

As long as sully is here it really doesn’t matter. He would neuter the best players trying to force them to play his game. Sully needs to learn who he has and adapt the team. |

Right. He didn't even give "competing" a full year.

To be fair, Dubas switched plans and is starting to do that now. Saying they are trying to be competitive is just lip service. They haven't made any moves compete now in the past year, but instead have tried to bring in either rentals trade chips, use cap space for picks, or add younger talent over 20. |

I wasn't believing it at first, but the fact that rumor hasn't died is interesting. Odd that Byfield finally seems to be figuring out his game and they would move him?
I don't love him, but I'd do a Rackell for Byfield trade. He could end up a good 2C for us in the longer term. He would also be good trade bait with a team like Buffalo looking to change their mix but needing to get a center back. |

He was handcuffed from the start and wasnt helped by the fact I dont think ownership wanted him to rebuild. But now I think reality has set in (which is good).

If Byfield is available, he's exactly the kind of guy we should target.

I thought the Byfield speculation was refuted. If not though yes, try and go get him.
Tomasino is listed a lot of places as a C. I wonder if that could be tried. |

Seth Jones ($2.5M retained) to Florida for Spencer Knight and a 1st. For a player many thought was unmovable not long ago, this is at least something for Chicago. Their problem is their team is a mess.
Will be interesting to see how and if this impacts Dubas's approach to Karlsson. |

Very interesting. I didn't hear anything about money retained? Knight is basically a cheap buyout in the off-season, so Chicago basically gets a 2027 1st for Seth Jones. Seems like a good deal for both sides. Jones is the same as Karlsson, overpaid but mostly looking like poop because they are in awful teams.
The Hawks need to get their poop together though ... They have done a horrific job of helping Bedard. If I were his agent I'd be pushing for a trade the heck out of there. They are going to ruin him. It's a fine return for an overpaid guy that doesn't want to be there, but it's still not a good situation. |

I'm definitely hoping the Seth Jones deal will allow us to move Karlsson. I'm definitely hoping Dubas can get us some solid younger talent and move out some players. |

EK would be a great acquisition for the right team. Do teams give up their top prospects anymore? Teams seem willing to part with picks way more than a top prospect.

Friedman says Rantanen won't sign a contract extension prior to the deadline... Carolina is in a tough spot now. Rantanen has not been as good as Necas since acquisition and now they risk losing him for nothing.
Rantanen is really damaging himself also. Still a very good player, but it looks like a lot of his success was MacKinnon driven. Not looking like a guy who can dominate on his own. He should have just signed for the $13M Colorado offered.
Him going back on the market definitely helps us. |

I doubt EK brings in a top prospect, but I'm hoping we move some Picks and potentially a pick if it is acquired from his deal (if we traded him at the deadline) to bring in some youth. I'm sorry about my wording. I more so meant that we moved out EK as one deal at the deadline and bringing in youth in other deals at the deadline (Byfield, McTavish, Byram, Maccelli, etc.) |
