Prior to acquiring Parssinen, Drury's first target to be his future 3rd line center was Buffalo's 25 year old Ryan McLeod (6'3" - 188 lbs.); as you mentioned him in preference, Jan, in this blog. That per just one reason for Drury having scouts present at the Sabres game in Carolina on Thursday night. That was just 5 days after directly witnessing McLeod score his 13th & 14th goals (of his season's overall 31 points to date), in the Sabres 8-2 trouncing of the Rangers, two nights after the "Four Nations Tournament" ended.
But there must have been an additional reason or more for scouting the Sabres just 5 days after being romped by them on Feb. 22nd. Could it be to acquire any of their other promising youth, &/or pending UFA's (like Jordan Greenway), per Drury's future roster construction plan to become bigger, tougher, etc; along with a youth movement of upper skill, speed, & grinders who work hard?
The above in preference vs. acquiring any UFA's for rental purposes to make a run for solely a 2025 W.C. spot. This while having according to NHL experts as of Feb. 28th & just 7 days prior to the March 7th TDL, anywhere from the 3rd to toughest remaining schedule of all current NHL postseason teams, and those who are still contenders to reach the playoffs. |

Othmann Parssinen Kaliyev
Brodzinski Carrick Rempe
After Smith gets traded, this is what I’d go with. |

Agreed. Gotta get Laf away from panarin at this point. I may even put Berard over Brodz if they want youth in there. The bottom 6 misses Edstrom speed |

I think it was a good trade for both teams. Haters will hate the trade and bash Dru. Such a shame for lindy that he is still young but his body has been beat to hell. Excited to see what the new toys will bring. Lavy mismanaged playing time for the third and fourth lines. I get it’s the third period but give these lines some time instead of grinding the first 2 lines into the ice. I just don’t know what’s up with Laffy. I don’t think it’s the contract. Maybe something personal, who knows. |

It wouldn’t shock me if a team wanted Brodzinski at the TDL. He’s been good when given an opportunity. |

I had this same thought. Guy has an absolute cannon and never hesitates. Wouldn’t shock me to see him score 20+ somewhere else if given the right opportunity (on a 17.5 goal pace currently). Great value for this year and next at under $800k. |

Drury has turned over the roster a lot this season but are we that much better?
Incoming: JT Miller, Urho Vaakanainen, Will Borgen, Calvin De Haan, Arthur Kaliyev, Erik Brannstrom and Juuso Parssinen
Departing: Jacob Trouba, Kaapo Kakko, Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey, and Victor Mancini
Is having Brennan Othmann, Brett Berard Remepe and Brod in the line up for 6 or 7 minutes a game really going to help them develop?
I think Lavy finishes the year and we get coach Q for next season. |

Had an incredible game against the Islanders with 2 goals yet the next game got a little over 7 minutes, go figure. |

All logic is out the window this season. “Opposite season” as I’ve said before. Applies to just about everyone and everything. |

Ive never understood this with Brodz. Any time he gets called up, hes pretty much always noticable. However never gets the respect of the management to get consistent playing time.
It feels like management is always chasing something that seems to be right under their nose. |

Took this post from X on Parssinen’s from one of his former teammates
“He’s a horse down low with the puck — his lower body strength is crazy, you can’t take the puck from him. He’s got a nose for the net and he’s a great guy — a little on the quieter side, but good English and great to talk to.”
Sounds like KK!!

Really needed him or Laf to be a true center. Hindsight, Stűtzle was the right pick but Rangers prob would’ve kept him on the 3rd line and PP2. |

We could’ve picked McDavid and this organization would’ve messed it up. They hate/don’t have the patience for youth. If we never signed Panarin, Kakko and Laf both would’ve benefited. More ice time, being “the guy”, more PP time etc |

Zero patience for youth. You gotta learn to lose before you can win. Unfortunately NY doesnt have the stomach for a correct rebuild. When we signed Panarin all those years ago, I was blasted and ridiculed. 6 years into his contract and still no whiff of a finals let alone a Cup. There is still a chance this year but I doubt it. This team is going thru a retool now, no way are they contending for a Cup anytime soon. |

A whiff we had when we went up 2-0 on the Lightning and 2-1 on the Panthers in the ECF. |

I think you’re looking more at the back of the hockey card more than anything else if you look at it from this perspective. At this point it’s not whether or not if we are better at this current time but the question you need to be asking yourself is are we set up better going forward? I think the overwhelming answer is yes. We got rid of some horrendous contracts and got value for players that we aren’t going to retain after this season. Also gives much more opportunity to give our young kids a chance to see what they can do. Also gives us more flexibility in the offseason to bring in the right pieces. This season is a wash and the sooner everyone comes that conclusion the better off you will be. It was a down season and it happens but we really have a great opportunity to go into next season refreshed and reloaded. I have faith in Drury that he has a solid plan. |

This is such a horrendous take. It’s almost like you want the team to fail and you be right over this Panarin argument. The Rangers got an incredible talent in Bread and you’re not going to convince me or most Rangers fans that wasn’t the right decision to bring him in. Don’t tell me by getting bread that it stunt the growth and prevented us from a proper rebuild. That’s BS. They did the rebuild and came out of it on the other side. Look at the Blackhawks and Sabres. Nothing is a guarantee with a rebuild. Look at the roster my guy when we got Panarin. Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider, Laf, Kakko, Chytil, Igor. We could go on and on. Not to mention Kreids is homegrown. They came very close on multiple seasons. Winning a Stanley Cup is obviously the ultimate goal but you gotta enjoy the runs man. I rather it be this way then be out of the playoff picture for 5 years straight because you want a “proper rebuild” |

Would you rather be out of it for 5 years and win a Cup, or sniff it year after year and never get it? |

But again you make it sound like you’re guaranteed a cup after a 5 year rebuild. lol |
