Can you provide the names, in your opinion, of any big fish the Flyers will look to go after when they do their big game hunting.

The Flyers like both players you mention. They view them core players. That is the main reason they will not be moved.

Baffling to even try to sell it.

Actions speak louder than words. Until Briere does something that moves the needle, I have little faith in him. I’d be very happy to be wrong! However, this “big game hunting” doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense as the anticipated UFA class this coming summer is not very impressive.

I give him and A+ for drafting MM39 and whatever he did to get him here early.

The Bee/Frost trade was meh (time will tell if the salary cap impact will get the team heading in the right direction)

The Cutter trade was a necessity and as a Drysdale fan, it turned out about as good as it could.

The deals to get some first round picks via Colorado and Edmonton remain to be seen, but those picks are low 1st rounders.

He was not the architect of the Provorov trade but did well.

However, the Flyers still do not have goaltending. There are no 1C or 2C on the team. TK was a big spending risk. OT contract is not good right now. The ND contract not good. No number 1 defensemen in the pipeline.

GMDB has a lot to prove.

To date, Danny gets an B+ at worst.

Anyone who thinks otherwise either overvalues the roster, is not paying attention, or simply likes to whine.

So based off of DKos post about the Inqy article Danny said they will not be making moves? Can someone tell me if that is true or am I just having an old acid flashback?

I agree that the trade deadline is not the be all and end all Ek, but there is another aspect that you must consider. Allowing this team to stay together and for Torts to continue to coach in a way to try to win every game does nothing but hurt the Flyers this off season. This is a weaker draft and though the Flyers have 7 picks in the first two rounds, they are not as valuable this year as they might be in next year. If the Flyers don't subtract significantly at the deadline, they might finish strong enough to put themselves out of the top 10 again. How dos this help them or their position this summer? The answer is simple, it doesn't!

IMO, the only risky move Briere has made was trading Gauthier. He was forced into it by the player. One could point to the drafting of Michkov. He inherited a team that was not close to coming out of the East, has the gap closed that much. I do not believe so. We keep waiting for this grand plan to start. I guess it starts this summer. Odd the organization understands it is lacking elite talent, but all the players in the organization 25 or below (outside Farabee and Frost) cannot be moved. Outside of 1st round picks, these pool of players have the most trade value to acquire assets that add significant talent to an organization.

I was holding out hope that this FO group would be different but I have to say, I’m losing faith. I’m not one to just align with the masses and say because things were being run a certain way ten years ago, that would be the status quo for today. I try to judge each FO group on their own merits. As I don’t think it’s fair to hang upon this group what Hextall did, Fletcher and as far back as to Holmgren and even Clarke. But if this FO sits on their hands through this TDL for the 2nd straight year, that would be very disappointing. Speaking on the deadline, I like a GM who moves, what would be considered the bigger deals or core players, i.e. Laughton, Risto, before the deadline day and save the Erik Johnson types on the last day. This way you already have in your pocket what’s really needed or wanted without having your back to the wall, hopefully not making a hasty decision. Then if some GM unexpectedly gives you a little more prior to 3pm, then so be it.

Very fair assessment and well said.

I thought the hiring of DB and Jonsey was questionable at best. Danny is a neophyte in the hockey management business and the POHO is a color analyst. It never struck me as a shrewd move to hire two guys with very little experience. ON top of that you have a Coach that will dictate who and what he wants,. Torts never was right for the rebuild - he has too much say and will try to squeeze every last bit of his players and his management team.

We will see by tomorrows trade deadline.

I am saving my full critique for after this week's event. However, if he does nothing I want GMDB removed from office.

You have seen this week how a few GM's got creative and were aggressive. No reason the Flyers can't be.

Also, if they do not trade Laughton and then frame it as his leadership is too valuable I might have an aneurysm.

Don't worry - *if* there is a trade he will be right back to square one and think we are right back into building a contender.
