Definitely lackluster returns on smith but his play didn't help his case. Maybe he returns to form in Vegas but as uuaywe struck out on a 1RW.

The rangers have 20 games left to figure it out. I don't fear Washington in the first round as I think they'd match up better with them than Florida. Especially since I have a sinking suspicion that Tkachuk is back for game 1 of the playoffs.

I also feel like we'd do well against Carolina if we were to pass the devils, especially since they may fall back after losing Hughes.

But all this depends on what rangers team shows up. Honestly I see them winning one round and then bowing out in the 2nd if we make it in at WC2 or 3rdMetro

I think Drury pretty much got bailed out by Vegas on a fairly lousy trade for Reilly Smith

San Jose's 3rd rounder and Brisson is pretty much a wash value wise what they gave up, IMO

We gave up and a second and third and like it was stated got about the same return. Underwhelming considering what happened yesterday but at least it isnt a loss.

I think the trade to move out Smith is just fine, a good 3rd round pick and a player they can use or trade for another pick.
Smith was okay but nothing great and at 33 wouldn't be expected to get much better. Better to move him for something now while they can.

Drury is in a good spot, they can miss or make the playoffs and nobody expects much either way, everyone is on board for a rebuild. He's gaining picks and cap space by the day and a couple big moves could get done by tomorrow or in the off season.
I expect Kreider to be done Friday or the offseason, now is the right time while he has value and before things decline further.

depends on Brisson really

but the very first pick of the 3rd round in 2025 compared to a 2nd round pick in 2027 is really quite minimal difference

Looking at Brisson, drafted same year as Laf. He’s currently on pace for 9 goals and is a -24 in the AHL. I wouldn’t expect much there.

I liked the Vesey/Lindgren trade, but Drury struck out on this one.

What more did you expect him to get? Smith had an NTC so he could veto a bunch of places. The third round pick is at the top of the round. If they got Vegas’ second, the spread would be four picks.

Jimmy what’s the deal on this guy Brisson? 8 points in 24 games isn’t that bad.

I think the original trade and this trade end up a wash value wise

You get what teams are willing to pay. Supposedly there were a couple of teams with interest. Guess this was the best deal.

He is the son of one of the biggest agents in the nhl, who also represents Jack Eichel

Drury in the summer of 2026, Eichel signs with us or your kid is stuck in Hartford

Vince Z. Mercogliano
@vzmercogliano

There's more detail in the story, but I spoke to a scout who's followed Brisson over the years and thinks he's best at center. That's certainly where #NYR could use him most given the lack of Cs in their prospect pool.

Sounds like the physical tools don't jump out, but he's a high IQ/good hockey sense type of player who I'm told needed a change of scenery.

I remember from his draft year he had a really good shot. Not sure if that has translated to the pros but I remember that being his best quality. Always good to have more shoot-first mentality guys on this team, especially with another playmaker in Perrault coming up

He had an 8 team NTC correct? 7 of the 8 teams were in Canada is what was reported. It was a bad trade to begin with getting him

The hope when we traded for him is that he would come in and compete for our first line RW at a low-cost contract. He never really meshed with Mika as his center, and didn't have a particularly strong season. Drury made a reasonable deal to cut bait here ---- lets all move forward.

CAN'T WAIT TILL DEADLINE TOMORROW!

Agreed, unless they moved CK20, which I doubt or a trade out of no where like Laffy or Miller.
