Not sure if it changes your opinion, but TOR gets Laughton at 1.5 for next year as well.

I will take a player that gets injured over one that is a shadow. Norris cannot reach be a #1 center. Maybe give the trade a chance to breathe instead of writing us off in condemnation. Cozens has been nothing since Garret broke his face. He’s never recovered. Bones heal, a shattered self image is much trickier to put back together

Missed that extra year! Thank you!

Treliving had a couple major weaknesses when he managed the Flames. Evaluation of blue line talent and building bottom six groups that couldn’t find an identity were at the top of the list.

Hah. Maybe there is resentment there, but I’m not sold that paying so much for those guys puts the Leafs over the top.

Thanks Trevor, great read.
Glad Conny didn’t add some old vet to block the kids. If he’s true to his word about giving the kids some experience in the playoffs, then it was the right move.
Play out the season, reevaluate, make some smart decisions.
How about Zayne? Kid is breaking records in the O. Looks like a great pick for the Flames. Would be nice to see them have the same success this year.

When they are comparing to Bobby Orr records you gotta like that.

Seems we wasted an opportunity to weaponize the cap space. Brokering cap seems to have fizzled & returns were pretty meh. I think the best way to weaponize the cap space was to do it on your own players & doing aggressive retentions to max out returns. But.....sigh.......Conroy did the nice guy thing & did nothing. Missed opportunity, probably & time will tell how big of a mistake that loyalty turns out to be.

I was looking at that Coyle trade, he's 33 (1 year younger than Kadri) this year & next cap hit of $5.25mill per & if you look at the comparables over the last 4 years,Kadri's stats blow him out of the water. Islanders got Mittlestat, a 2nd & a conditional 3rd. Retain 2.0 mill & offer him to Colorado before they even did the Brock Nelson deal & they may have been able to get Ritchie & Mittelstat back. Kadri waives to go to Colorado in a heart beat & we get a top C prospect & a young RHS centre that Conroy had been coveting. Yep missed opportunity indeed.

Yep. That was probably the play. Standing pat likely doesn’t look good in a couple weeks from now.

Conny needs to sign Wolf as soon as he can. He's keeping the Flames ahead.

Kid’s a franchised goalie. Outstanding in every league he’s played in. New Flames record, agree he’s going to get paid.

I get all this, but still admire what Conroy did for the team. He kept his word and I’m sure if there was a simple trade that didn’t tear apart the team chemistry it would have happened. He’s committed to this group, good on him. Lots of time to trade players this summer, we may even see a couple hockey trades.

Cant argue that, they played pretty good tonight. Farabee has really found a home with Backlund & Coleman, keep that line together.
I guess my worry is the age & length of that Kadri contract is going to be hard to move but I think we could have maxed out the return we could get. Im afraid we come up shy of playoffs but not bottom 10. That would be kind of worse case scenario. But if we make the playoffs, Im happy, even if its a one & done kind of thing it will be good for the young guys. Then Connie is going to look like the hero.

Hopefully Flames show up with same effort as last night. Hughes still out for the Canucks but Pettersson had a better game last game.

Canucks lose to Dallas last night. Play Montreal Tuesday in Vancouver, then fly to Calgary for a back to back on Wednesday. Gotta love the schedule makers.
