For the love of god Detroit needs to buy out Holl before next season. To bring him back would be criminal. Second now that we are out there is no reason not to bring up Tumimsto and Lombardi and sit Holl and Compher. Let the young guys get a feel for this league. Yzerman probably won’t as the kids will probably look good and this then will make him look bad for not doing it sooner. Yzerman now has to start realizing his playing career only goes so far as his Gm career so far is a joke

Buy out for Tarasenko. His trade value is crap. Big disappointment.

Lombardi, Tuomisto, Wallinder, Sandin-Pellika and Cossa are ready to get a taste of NHL action. However... it's not realistic to think Yzerman is going to completely raid GR to give them some NHL time this season. Won't happen as GR is in the playoffs and those players need the playoff experience.

I really wish Yzerman could find a way to get Buchelnikov over here from Russia. Whatever it takes. Time to jettison some of the vets... maybe put a couple on waivers, but I doubt they would get picked up. I'd say most of Yzerman's free agent signings have been a bust that have term of more than 1 year.

I actually think that the kids, though I want to see them, are better off in GR for the last few games (especially with all the road games for Detroit) getting ready for their playoffs. They should have been given a look sooner. As for Yzerman, saying his GM career is a “joke” is ignoring Tampa completely. He hasn’t done it in Detroit at this point, but TB still benefits from what Yzerman did there. Bringing the kids up has nothing to do with optics at this point but benefit. This last part of the fall isn’t worth it when they have a lot more positivity going on in GR. Opinion of course.

While I'm disappointed in the Wings, this wasn't going to be their year, no matter what. Last year wasn't going to be their year, even if they had squeaked in. It's easy to say Yzerman has made bad choices on FA signing, and he has, but out of all his trades & FA signings, only one was brought in to be part of the core of the future of the team, and that's DeBrincat. Copp, Compher, Tarasenko, Holl, Petry, their goalies, even Kane...none of them were brought in to be part of the core of this rebuild. They are all temporary placeholders. Seven of them are falling off next year, and five the year after. Some of them may be replaced or signed to another year or two, but they are all temps. Some will be replaced by the kids who are ready next year. Some of them will be replaced by the kids who will be ready the year after.

It's easy to get frustrated and impatient, I know I am, but the team we are watching today is not the team Yzerman is building for the future. Most teams hope that each draft produces at least two NHL caliber players. Detroit produced three in 2019, one so far in 2020 which will likely be two. 2021 has produced one so far, but likely four. 2022 has produced one and likely three or four. The odds are at least three from the 2023 draft and maybe a 4th in Kiiskinen and maybe a 5th if Finnie continues to develop. It's too soon to tell for 2024, but MBN is playing fantastic right now (2 goals last night).

That's 10 to 12 incoming players to replace the 12 outgoing UFAs. Some of them will be Wings, some will be traded for assets, but no matter what, the Wings are two to three years out from being a legit playoff team. If those players don't work out, then we can call the rebuild a failure, but it's way too early to call it a failure today.

"It's easy to get frustrated and impatient, I know I am, but the team we are watching today is not the team Yzerman is building for the future." Well stated, but with the current UFA contracts on the team, there may be another two seasons of pain before those contracts are flushed out.
