The Flyers won't tank because they're the Avis Rental Car of the NHL... "we try harder." |

Coaches and players don't purposely lose, management does. That's how it works, always and forever. |

too late to tank now. Besides, it’s not the coaches job to tank. |

If Michkov stayed in the KHL as expected, this team is easily a top 4 team. He made a big difference this season. |

Be nice to see Foerster with a more skilled center throughout the majority of a season. |

I have to believe they will not hire Shaw to be the HC next season. At least, I hope not. Makes no sense to me to go with Torts' right hand man, but I fully expect strange to occur at this time. I hope they go totally out of the box and go with a college HC or AHL HC (not Lappy). |

I don't believe the regime will go with any of the names mentioned. The only possible candidate would be Ferschweiler from WMU. I'm trying to figure out why Todd Nelson from Hershey is not considered a top candidate. Back to back Calder Champs and is part of an organization who has just gotten better over the last 2 years with guys from Hershey becoming pretty important contributors in the NHL. I really like Carle, do not think they can get Carle. Would be extremely happy with Nelson. |

Please no Lappy, Shaw, or Rocky! Tocchet rumors crack me up but he's a former Flyer so the internet loves throwing that one around. Was a big Richardson fan as a player. I'm not sure who I want to coach this group but we just need someone who is good with younger players. This board is pretty much dead, but in the old days, would blow up big time if a former Flyer gets the job.

I want a young innovative coach for what is going to be a young team moving forward. NO EX FLYERS PLEASE!

Lol yea I loved Lappy as a player but we need someone younger. Funny how Lappy had 25 fights the one year he played for us and we have 14 this whole season. Oh how hockey has changed.

That would pretty much be it for me also. I do think they let it be know they take a run at Carle. Whether the regime can get the deal over the finish line is another matter. They love optics and being linked to the next great coach is terrific press.
Btw, Barkey is averaging over 3 pts a game so far in the OHL playoffs. Good for him, look forward to seeing him turn pro and find out what happens next. |

Alex Bump and Western Michigan won the Frozen Four, pretty impressive run. Knocking out Denver and BU is not an easy road. |

When you hire a GM, you give him the opportunity to hire a coach that he wants, to take the team in the direction he envisions. Both Briere and Jones inherited Torts as the coach. They very well could’ve been happy with Torts as the coach at that time. But now things are different and they should be. It’s time for Danny to put his stamp on this team, and that doesn’t include hiring the Lappy or Shaw types. If he makes the wrong choice here, he pretty much seals his fate as GM, unless he pulls off a huge player transaction and gets more than one stud out of this offseason. We all know that’s not happening. IMO, this hire has to be either new or bold for his sake. I certainly don’t think he has mastered the job of GM, still learning on the job some, but I also don’t think he is an idiot either. As a lifelong fan, 14 year old when the last cup was won, my fingers are crossed he makes the right choice. |
