the answer is really quite simple, Pegula swoops in and buys the Blues, trades all the Blues good players for our crappy players, win a couple Stanley Cups, then trade all the good players from the Sabres to the Blues for all their crappy players let the Blues win a couple cups.

And the beauty is while the other team is sucking they will be getting all high draft choices so after a span of say 10 years both teams would be good

Koivu deserves to make it, the guy is so underrated! But Vanek should have been there, same with Kovalchuk instead of guys like Mihalek and Alfreddson! Now that's a joke!
