But on this team, this season, and the kind of career season is having, Hartnell is making an impact and that's why he should have been chosen - 37 points in 41 games.
He is an All-Star on these Flyers and this may be the first and last time that happens. And that's why he should have been chosen.
- tpanaccio
He's playing like an all-star now but doesn't usually.
Maybe thats why he shouldn't be there, he isn't an "All-Star" the way Ovie is. |

All-Star = Popularity contest...
it's done on rep and not on merit...get used to it, it's been that way since forever. - number_23
Exactly, this is where fans see the 40 or so biggest all stars, not the 40 leading candidates for the Hart trophy. |

Agreed, but there are always many great players left off this roster while guys like Milan Michalek get fanned in. Loui Erikkson, Joe Thorton, Anze Kopitar, Halak, Parise, James Neal. These guys are scoring as much as Hartsy And we have teams that aren't represented at all in the game outside of their rookies. Carolina, Edmonton, New Jersey, Columbus & Colorado only have guys for the Rookie skills competition.
Zach Parise & Pat Elias have more points or more and Jersey isn't being represented in the game at all.
I like Hartsy I like what he brings but the All-star game is all about the small world ride. Everyone gets equal representation and floats around trying not to look bored. |

I am sorry guys but I have to agree with Tim on this one yes harts is not the caliber of player that ovie is and we all know that but let's be real here neither was probert but he was elected to the 1987-88 all star team and in no way did he put up the numbers that ovie does now I now that it's two different leagues (old NHL to new NHL), but in my personall opinion why shouldn't someone like harts at least be considered the guy is having a career year and as we have all seen from his antics around the NHL he could very well be a marketable guy people love to hate him, and it's not like he wouldn't go out there and have some fun with it and bring some life to the events.
Good on ya anyhow Tim for bringing this to the attention of others personally he is an all-star in my books and should be rewarded for his great play this year!!!!

3 Toronto Maple Leafs are on the team. That's all you need to know. The All Star Game has nothing in common with reality. If I were a player, I'd want the time off. As a fan of the Canucks, I wish none of them were going. |

Well if Flyers Nation wanted Hartnell in so bad he could have gotten voted in. There is a reason why fans get to vote...

Tim Panaccio: My Rant on Hartnell - tpanaccio
Meh. Stats wise he deserves recognition, but really, it's an all star game. He can relax and have a nice weekend and not have to worry about going anywhere. |

Why is that? Kessel and Lupul are both in the top 5 in NHL scoring and Phaneuf, like it or not, was voted in. |

Philadelphia already has 4 players representing them in the games. Can't recognize everybody who's having a good year. |

Perhaps you missed the part of that post where I said it's just an all star game. I couldn't care less about the all star game. I think it's a meaningless circle jerk and would rather see a bunch of regular season games on both days of that weekend. |

Couldn't agree more...but as long as you have them, you'll have players/teams/fans who will feel slighted. Meh...nature of the beast. |

Unfortunately there aren't enough roster spots and there's too many other good players who deserve to be there. I don't think Ovechkin does, but I'd easily put Vanek on the All Star roster before Hartnell. The big joke is (frank)ing Alfredsson and Michalek. There's no reason for fans to be putting guys in the roster. Let the players coaches decide. If the NHL wants to make $ from the fans let the fans vote on the opening lines based on the already set rosters. Aside from Ovechkin, Alfredsson, and Michalek though it's hard to put Hartnell above anyone else on that roster. |

That's actually a good idea. Judging by who got voted in, and the numbers that went with it, it was clear that there's a large percentage of the fan base that didn't give a poop about the whole thing. Changing it now couldn't make fans as a whole care any less, so why not try something that could get some credibility back into the game. |

It'd just be nice to see a guy whose most popular video on Youtube features him falling on his ass or throwing a glove at a guy on a breakaway. |

Tim, your argument that Hartnel hasn't been chosen as an All-Star because he isn't marketable, like Ovechkin, is ridiculous. Why do you think Ovechkin is marketable? I'll give you a clue...he's really really good and he's been really really good for years . In fact he's been one of the best players in the NHL for several years. The only thing keeping Hartnel from being marketable is his talent. That being said...I also disagree with your statement that Hartnell hasn't been an "impact player that truly makes a difference on the Flyers". I think he's been an impact player for the Flyers since they picked him up. He's big and physical and agressive, he pretty consistently scores 20+ goals a year, he usually plays on the top line, and he plays the PP. Seems like a pretty impactful player to me.
Just because the guy isn't a superstar doesn't me he isn't a top tier player. He's a great player. The reason he's not a Super Star is not because he's unpopular. He's unpopular because he's not a Super Star. He probably deserves to be an All-Star this year. But, as my daughter would say, "WHATEVER". |

Agreed. I would get rid of the fantasy draft too, its just a waste of time. (I know, the whole weekend is really a waste of time). The only thing I find worth watching is the Skills Competition, and even that has sucked hard in recent years. |

I believe I go onto say that there are more worthy omissions... besides, I don't want Harts or even Kimmo or Giroux in the All-Star game. The only All-star game I want them playing in is the Stanley cup finals. All-Star break is a chance to heal & Rest. |

i absolutely cannot stand hartnell, but his numbers this year and role on that team this year would not have made an all star appearance unwarranted. however, if you apply the snubbed moniker to hartnell, it must also apply to james neal, who is putting up the numbers people envisioned him to have alongside crosby even though he has played only a handful of games with him in the lineup |
