its hard to say that the shooters are to blame (although the matt read attempt is still in our minds from last night, and was nothing short of embarrassing) but our shooters are 4 for 9 in attempts this season which is 5th best in the league as far as shooting percentage. Bryz is 0 for 5 while Bob is 1 for 3. It hard to win when you get absolutely no goaltending help. (Bob and Bryz are bottom 5 of the 45 goalies who have attempted shootouts this year, bryz is dead last). So how about a whole practice dedicated to shootouts over all star break to get Bryz and Bob some help? Who is to blame is the goaltending, and maybe the coaching a little bit. |

As much as I think people have jumped all over Bryz a bit prematurely (goalies, like any position, go through slumps, his came at a bad time but people act like it's the end of the world as we know it), this comes down on Bryz. It's not like the Flyers are getting shutout in the shoot out, they're getting some points, but Bryz has to make a save to give them a chance.
As with anything in any sport, he needs to practice it until he's competent at it. It's really that simple. |

It bears repeating again that Bryz actually had above-average shootout success (primarily in his Vezina finalist season) until this season. Posted the pre-2011-12 numbers in today's blog:
2010-11: 32 shootout attempts plus 3 penalty shots, 11 GA (.685 SV%)
2009-10: 62 shootout attempts plus 2 penalty shots, 17 GA (.806 SV%)
2008-09: 20 shootout attempts and 0 penalty shots, 10 GA (.500 SV%)
2007-08: 29 shootout attempts plus 1 penalty shots, 9 GA (.700 SV%)
2006-07: 13 shootout attempts and 0 penalty shots, 6 GA (.538 SV%)
2005-06: 0 shootout attempts plus 2 penalty shots, 1 GA (.500 SV%)

maybe I am tired therefore not comprehending well but I can't make heads or tails on who of the injured players will be in Florida
and maybe I am being a female dog but every article written by tim is just being a debbie downer. I swear the Flyers could win 10 in a row, lose badly in one and he would write about the one |

I'm with you. I think there may be a missing "not" in the JVR/Jagr paragraph. |

I have to say I'm dissapointed with lavy if he's not practicing this. First of all the team is terrible in the shootout and the goalie is struggling. I think this is a no brainer and if it hurts someone's feelings to get back into the dressing room 10 minutes too late then say hello to adirondack female dog. This almost pisses me off to read this and Im a huge Lavy supporter but someone's sleeping on the job if you ask me. |

My colleague at CSNPhilly.com, Jay Greenberg, said where this is going to bite the Flyers in the ass at the end of the season is in the standings.
Tim, another media colleague of yours believes that this will bite the Flyers in playoff games |

it is disappointing, and really unacceptable given the SO is a reality of today's game no matter how much purists despise and protest it. knowing the flyers have the worst record in nhl history in this category makes it even worse. i love read and simmonds, but i found lava's choices yesterday suspect. with briere and jvr out (jagr doesn't go early) they had less skill to choose from, but still other options were available. and for the love of god, bryz, make a (frank)ing save. |

Tim writes like it's winter and gloomy all the time. The funniest thing that I get out of his articles is his opinion. He should let the facts carry the story not his opinion. If it wasn't for the sport he wouldn't have his job so treat it like a special chance to write about something you might enjoy viewing.
I also like how he would rather hide behide the computer and not engage (the right way) the fans on a message board or on twitter or on facebook like other writers do.
do to the lack of interaction and the debbie downer 'tude and the lack of creative writing, i've chosen to not follow him anymore.
His writing also reminds me about that movie...I could've been somebody... |

it blows my mind that they don't practice the shootout. Even if the coach doesn't think it's important to practice you'd think the players would take the responsibility and practice on their own. I know Jagr is famous for his late-night training sessions. If Bryz, or any of the shooters, feel uncomfortable with the SO why not arrange for 30 minutes a day of ice-time where they can work on it? |

if you look closely, tim, you'll see that the sens have played four more games than the flyers and have six fewer regulation/ot wins. don't expect them to be anywhere near the flyers in the standings by year's end.
also, not sure how any could say putting read out there in the shootout was a suspect decision given who was available to shoot. |
