Trade Wilson. The rest will fall into place.

Meh, Carter is of little use to us when he's injured. 10 years left on that horrid contract too...

The club is fine as is, a first line center would be nice but what they REALLY need is Orr back in the lineup.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if MacArthur, Grabosvski and one of our dmen were moved. I don't see Mac and Grabs in TO for the long term and the glut of defenseman is great to have at the beginning of the year or if we were expecting a long playoff drive.

And don't trade for Carter

Burke made it pretty clear he didn't agree with signing players to those long contracts that purposely circumvent the cap. I don't recall him ever saying anything about not trading for a player with an existing one.

macarthur can be moved in a heartbeat.
whether that means securing kadri's place in the line-up, lombardis resurgence, bringing armstrong back into action, bringing up frattin or a combination of any these variables, the point is that macarthur is absolutely replaceable.

Carter's garbage.

Terrible contract
Terribly injury prone
Not the type of centre the Leafs need. He's a scorer, they need a play maker

Spend the extra draft pick or prospect and get Getzlaf.

My interest level in Carter = 4/10

There are only FIVE teams in the Eastern Conference with a positive goals for/against differential.

And the leafs are one of them.

Spooky.

agreed. id honestly only take him if it was a salary dump of some sort on columbus' part, like carter for komi and a pick, but based on what they gave up for him that aint happenin

Yeah, the club is no where near fine as it is.

Realized this to it's fullest yesterday in talks with Huddle...the current squad when compared to previous "almost successful" leafs teams is lacking:

No gritty, do whatever it takes, fight, cause havoc, 20+ goal scorer like Tucker
No lead by example, grind, fight, score 25+ goals player like Roberts
No #1 centre like Sudin
No #1 goalie that you can consistently rely on.

This team is the furthest thing from "fine as it is". And that's when comparing it to a squad that still was unable to win anything.

For sure...they'd never do that deal but I agree that I'm not willing to give up much for him...no interest.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and take that to be a joke. Good one.

Too carried away with what though?

It's a terrible contract for a player that would cost the leafs a lot to trade for and he's not the #1 centre they need.

Just doesn't make sense for him to be in Toronto...or at least to me it doesn't.

Although I don't think we would need to follow this specifc formula for success I do agree that there is work that needs to be done.

For sure.
Was just my way of trying to put things in perspective.

There's just nobody on this team that I can see stepping to another level in the playoffs and become a "force" in all areas of the game. Anybody you could say is a stretch for sure.

It was our conversation that put things in that perspective.

I already knew the team had a lot of work to do...but when we started reminiscing about previous squads and the tools they had...man, it was like a b*tch slap of reality that not only are they not close, they can barely see the door with the title "success" above it.
