Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 1/26/12 - bmeltzer
It'd be nice if they didn't have a week off, considering how tightly packed the schedule is in March. I guess I'm just being a selfish bastard, wanna watch some games. |

Bryz really, really needs to get his head strait during this break and have a strong 2nd half. Anyone know if historically he's better in the 2nd half of seasons? |

Very good question. I suspect thoug that he has not been nearly as bad in previous first half's as he has in this one as Phoneix would have been out of the playoff race if that was the case. |

You can look at his historical monthly splits at NHL.com: http://www.nhl.com/ice/pl...eason=20102011&gameType=2

We can always watch reruns of 24/7 or simply pull out our VHS tapes of yesteryear to watch until the season resumes. |

Anyone else think Hartnell will be picked last at the ASG draft? |

I honestly believe Bryz's biggest problem is the defense. I think he relies on his positioning more than Bob. Bob's positioning has improved immensely but his best attribute is his quickness. When the defense breaks down and the shot comes from an unexpected angle, Bryz isn't reacting as quickly as Bob and is frequently leaving huge rebounds even when he does make the save.
Maybe he's finally adjusting to being behind the worst defense of his career, I don't know, we'll see.

analysis of Neal/Gogo trade:

my fave part of this piece:
"Now, everyone in Starsland was ready to get rid of Niskanen, but that doesn't mean he didn't have value in the league. He was an asset, and the job of a GM is to manage assets." |

Looking at his past 3 seasons in Phoenix Bryzgalov posted only 2 months with save %'s below .900, this year two of the four months he played with the Flyers he has posted save %'s below .900. Small sample size, but seems like a troubling statistic. |

Lupul is one of Hartnell's best friends, he won't got last IMO.
I could see a goalie going last |

Or you can say he has gotten the 2 months of below .900 save percentage out of the way!

How do you explain Bobrovsky playing behind the same defense posting a 2.42 gaa, and .919 save %? And I don't want to hear any nonsense about Bobrovsky playing against weaker opponents. |

That is true. A bad regular season will be forgotten with a solid post-season. In the grand scheme of things that is all that matters anyway. |

I didn't know that.
I still say it won't be Hartnell.
That said if any player could take it in stride he would be the one. |

Hopefully we will all look back and laugh about this horrible start to Bryz's career as a Flyer. |

Perry last would be awesome.
I really hope Kessel isn't the 1st pick of Team Chara. |
