Excellent write up as usual Bill! Shame that this happened to Bryz as he has been dynamite over the last month. Guess we'll see how Bob does with all this rust...err rest he's had over the last 20 games!

I posted this on Tim's thread, and I'm moving it here because it's relevant to my thoughts on Bryzgalov.

From what it sounds like, and granted it's a big grain of salt considering the team's past pronouncements of injuries and timetables, that it's a matter of pain management, not something that puts Bryzgalov at future risk.

Now, obviously if there's a chance it worsens or becomes a problem he'll have to deal with down the road, there's no way you rush back. The Flyers have an investment to protect.

However, if it's simply a case of pain management, I think he could be playing. The key then becomes, how effective can he be. Reading the medical websites, when there's a chip fracture, or as most of the sites refer to it an avulsion fracture, there's also tissue damage and it often occurs near a joint.

From what the team has said-and again, big grain of salt-it seems more that Bryzgalov has a small bone chip and not the associated tissue injury.

It really depends on the proper information, which likely none of us have, given how the Flyers guard injury information.

I do agree that the weekend seems awfully optimistic, and I'd be expecting the earliest return sometime next week, maybe against the Sabres, just to get a game or two in before the playoffs.

Flyers look like their going to be locked into the 5th spot unless a lot of things go right down the stretch here. I think they should rest Bryz until the last two games of the season. Put him in net and let him get his game back before the playoffs start.

I am so beyond excited for the playoffs to begin. We can definitely beat the Pens (if that's how it shakes out); nothing would please me more, actually, then beating them at their home in a game 7

Hope everyone gets as healthy as they can and Bob can turn it on for the stretch run!

I would rather they hold him out until he feels comfortable enough to play. I'm not that worried about Bob if the team continues to play defense well in front of him, since I think Bob was the victim of many of the same kind of breakdowns that plagued them when Bryz was in net.

Hold him out until the last two games to get him ready going in to the big dance.

i agree as well they are pretty much a lock for fifth anyway,i would rest anyone with an injury.what ever happens in the playoffs happens this is a team with alot of rookies on it,i am only thinking of getting these guys some experience not stanley cup this year.i would like to see them beat the pens but they are veteran team that knows how to win will be very tough.

So the Pens don't scare you at all? We've played a lot better at home of late, and I just have visions of 2009 when we had home ice only to give it away just before the playoffs and lose in 6.

This is my own personal opinion... If someone told me that Bryz was going to break his foot, but I would be the one to pick what type of fx and where it would be located.. i would have picked small chip fracture and minimal-weightbearing bone (toe). So I would be one fir two here.

Good news: Its a relatively simple injury. Nothing to complicated usually comes of it. Like has been said else where.. typically its a matter of pain and swelling. The body will resorb that bony fragment and in a matter of about 6 weeks, you wont be able to find in on X-ray, CT, or MRI.

Bad News: It is in a weight-bearing bone ( most likely the navicular) and is exacerbated by stressful motions. Goalies do a ton of pushing with their feet. The way the body works is amazing.. but its not always in our best personal (what we want) interest. Pain, especially when severe, can actually cause muscles to "give out". People with severe knee pain often have this manifestation. They feel knee instability, yet when examined and tested actually have no mechanism for instability. Pain can be a serious PITA.

If it were up to me I would let him rest a week.. see how much pain he is in and go from there. Completely shut him down. Dont skate, stay off of it.. let him settle down. Sometimes the area is pretty irritated, and that can cause most of the pain. Staying off of it, letting that settle, and giving it a little bit of time to begin the healing process can really help. The last thing I would like to see is him pushing it to go this weekend, and then have him limp through the playoffs.

Ultimately.. the worst we can do is go 0-7.. and potentially end up playing either Pitt or the Rags... or in a best case scenario 7-0 and potentially end up playing either Pit or the Rags... catch my drift.

!!AGAIN: THIS IS ALL MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION!!
