Maybe Pittsburgh or Philly will trade for him... they could both use a goalie |

Maybe Pittsburgh or Philly will trade for him... they could both use a goalie - SofaKingBored
I can't believe what I am seeing in this series.
I know Philly fans believe their team is suddenly the most unstoppable offensive force to ever laced up their skates... but the truth is that neither of these teams has a clue how to play defense all of a sudden...
and Remier and Gustavsson looked better in net than Fleury or Bryzgalov has so far.
It is hilarious. Whoever wins better hope something changes or a team like the Bruins or Rangers is going to feast on them. Hell, I don't even think they would stand a chance against Florida or Jersey right now. |

I love your blogs, Howard, but this one makes little sense.
This isn't a break with Luongo - there's enough respect for Luongo on the team and in the city (believe it or not) that it doesn't even matter who starts this game. Goaltending's fine here. People are more interested in what's happening up front right now.
I don't think there are any takers beyond the three teams you've mentioned for Luongo and surely there will be talks, but this isn't closing the door here.
And if the Leafs are trading for Luongo because he's like the second coming of CuJo, they've got another thing coming. He's been in Vancouver for 6 years and owns every relevant all-time stat for a goalie, but he doesn't have the caché to go from Vancouver to a place that's been the only goalie graveyard bigger than Vancouver in the past 10 years. If you want to plug that hole between the pipes, Burke should get serious and put an offer together for Schneider! |

Puleez NO Luongo to the Leafs!!! OMG that would destroy our future! He's a good regular season goalie, but that's it!! With the contract he carries I would not touch him unless they throw something else in! |

Agreed, but I think it's naive to think Gillis wouldn't move Luongo if given the chance IMO. Getting a chance to move a contract that has 10 years left on it; yes please!!!
Schneider is your guy. If I'm a Canucks fan he's the last guy I want to see moved.

Last thing the Leafs need is a washed up goalie tied up for that long. |

I don't think you have much to worry about. Why would Luongo agree to come to Toronto? Luongo lives in a bubble in Van, which would happen here too, but throw being on one of the top 2-3 dysfunctional teams in the league/in sports - No thanks.

Last thing the leafs need is a goaltender with a .919 svp this year and a what career .920 or something....
Leafs might not want him but it wont be because he's washed up... |

I always love hearing people bash a goalie with a career .919 sv%, a gold medal and a trip to the cup finals.
Funny how much the media can change the simple fans mind. |

Not bashing his career, his best days are behind him.
Maybe, maybe not. He's playing behind a team of emotional divers who don't stick to the game plan.
I'm guessing someone with mod access added the above to my post lol. |

If the Nucks said we just want to move him and he's got a NTC, so Toronto gets a sweetheart deal to take the contract off their hands, I would actually do that. For five mil a year this is a good goalie, and 33 is not that old for a goalie...five mil a year won't be as much a percentage of the cap by 6 or 7 years from now. Then he just retires anyway. Yeah I know it's cap circumvention but (frank) IT we need a goalie |

I could see Columbus swapping Rick Nash for Luongo if the Canucks want a bona fide power fwd. They both have big cap hits & a lot of years left & it fills both teams' needs, although I don't necessarily see Luongo waiving his NTC to go to the BJs. |

Was thinking the sae thing to myself today, i could see Burke making this trade it would be along the lines of the Phaneuf trade, overpaid struggling star but i think the Toronto would eat Luongo alive. Phaneuf hasnt exactly panned out i would say. |

If Toronto gets Luongo that would be a steal. Trade your 1st and Kadri for him.
Luongo is still one of the best goalies in the league and will lead that team back to the playoffs.
He will be traded for at least what the Caps got for Varlamov. At least!!!
Luongo is still a stud and is about a 1000 times better than Reimer or Goose. |
