Accident or not, you have to give him a game. Not vicious, so that's why he's only getting one. |

Not according to Brendan Shanahan. James Neal claimed his hit was an accident and got off with a fine. |

Actually he didn't have to give him a game. James Neal got a game for 2 questionable hits to the head on the same shift and is a repeat offender. So how does a questionable hit from a clean player = 2 questionable hits from a repeat offender?
Maybe G should have then grabbed the back of Zubrus' head and slammed it into the boards, then I could see 1 game. |

Tim Panaccio: Giroux, Others React to Suspension - tpanaccio
I love the terminology used by Shanahan.
"Violent chop of the stick" the chop doesn't break the stick or knock it out of his hand. What does he consider a chop that breaks a stick? Devastating, Catastrophic!
The detail he uses to explain G arguing with the ref, "even goes to the degree to turn his back to the play" and he states the fact that was "legally finished" by the Fayne, but not once does he mention the fact that Brodeur played the puck outside the traeziod and play should have been blown dead, he bypasses that fact. |

Hit to the head, 1 game. Right decision. You can cry all you want, he hit the head, and got a game. |

hit to the head, got a game. Nothing wrong with that. The only way you guys wouldn’t be crying is if he got off. For hitting a guy in the head. Which would have been the wrong decision. |

How about breaking someone's helmet for smashing his head into the glass twice how was that not suspendable then, or was there no deliberate intent there? |

You keep missing the point. If it were that black and white, there wouldn't be an issue. It's not, so there is.
It's really not that complicated. |

I agree it was the "right" call... but you can't say that Flyers fans shouldn't be a little peeved by at the decision. The rulings on the suspensions or lack there of for certain players have been horribly inconsistent. Take the Weber play, or the two Malkin plays. The OV play is another that comes to mind. |

And if he didn’t get a game, you would give a shyt about any inconsistency, despite it being the wrong decision. Hit to the head, he got a game. It’s that simple. |

and Weber accidentally smashed Zetterber's head into the glass. and OV accidentally jumped into Girardi's head a few games ago. just so good to see the NHL keep it consistent. |

you've missed quite a bit of complaining about decisions and non decisions that have not affected the Flyers one way or another prior to this decision. Weber being one of them. |

That’s very nice. But this is the Flyers. No matter what, you guys are going to complain about this, despite it being the right decision. It’s a given. |

Essentially, this is the people’s here problem. They wanted him to make the wrong decision.

Perfect by what standards? Again, since no one seems to be able to get the point, what are the standards? What's the criteria for a suspendable offense? What's ok? What's borderline?
That's what a lot of people (not just Flyers fans) are complaining about. There's zero consistency. None. In one instance, 2 head shots during the same shift by the same repeat offender only warrants a game. In another, literally slamming someone's head into the boards is just a fine.
In case you haven't been paying attention, one of those players wasn't a Flyer.
Shanahan is making it up as he goes. That's why people aren't happy. |

I have zero problem with Giroux getting suspended for 1 game.
My issue is when Shea Weber can go WWE on Henrik Zetterberg as time expires and gets fined the blue book value of a 1993 Toyota Corrola. Or that Evgeni Malkin can throw high hits and elbows without the NHL taking a second look. Or when repeat offender Alexander Ovechkin can leave his feet and hit a guy in the head, and have it ignored by Brendan Shanahan.
If Claude Giroux being suspended ushers in consistent punishment for headshots, then great. I won't be holding my breath, though. |

Weber definitely should have gotten a game. It kind of reminded me of Bertuzzi-Moore a little, the way he drove his head (though the boards not the ice).
The ovechkin thing didn't look like a headshot to me though. |

Let me sum up this whole thread: Giroux got what he deserved, Weber didn't.
I do find it a bit amusing that Giroux doesn't seem to understand why he got suspended. |

If you told a five year-old that it is illegal to hit someones head in hockey, they would be able to tell you that was a bad hit. Either these players are trying to lie to themselves or they are just plain dumb. |
