Two years ago that honor was duchenes. Last year it was oreilly

Except at the end of the year when he actually had competent wingers..
I think next year.. Yes he will be the No. 1 center more in the way a defender is a No. 1 because he does it all. If Duchene is handled properly I could see him out scoring Stastny but.. Stastny regardless of the assists he puts up every year hes good for 20+ goals and a solid two-way game.
If you want him to have No. 1 center numbers like 70-80 points then he needs competent scorers that he can setup. He also continued and even improved his PPG pace going into the Worlds..
If we can pickup one of Parise or Semin it will probably be enough for him to return to form. Especially if McGinn even comes close to the 39 goal pace he was able to sustain for 17 games.
I believe McGinn can put up 30 goals over 82 games if hes playing next to a playmaker. There was really only two things that changed between his play in SJ vs COL and that is his shots per game pace and his minutes with quality line mates.
He actually created a lot of his own chances from his own hustle. Stastny wasn't just setting him up constantly. If McGinn earns 20 minutes a night next season on the top line. We may very well have traded Galiardi & WInnik for a 23 year old 40 goal scoring power forward.
I am really trying to keep my expectations in check but it's hard because he was so consistent in what he brought every shift. He scored on the power play.. even strength with different line mates (Like Mueller) all while still going to the dirty areas and bringing a physical game.
Btw.. As long as EJ gets a fairly long term contract his will be the third jersey I buy after only owning Forseberg's until I bought Landeskog's jersey this year.
Hes getting very solid defensively but he hasn't really figured out how to use his skills to create plays in the offensive zone. One thing is for sure.. Right now from the neutral zone back he can completely control the game especially if his partner is even playing a competent game defensively.
