It's very easy to jump on and off the bandwagon at will, but doing so means you can't fully appreciate the entire ride.
Brilliant! |

Bill, great work as usual. Any truth to the new rumored deal for Nash...JVR, Read, Bob, and 1st? I'm not a fan of Nash coming to the Flyers mainly because of what it will cost in terms of players and cap hit. However I'm starting to think they are serious about trading for him and if so this proposal seems to be the best for the Flyers. |

Team defense + a focussed Bryz = success - ob18
Unfortunately I don't think Snider has this written on his marker board. Maybe at the bottom, underneath Nash, Weber, Ryan, and Mani/Pedi. |

a consistent work ethic, focus & save percentage would help matters, don't expect a savior, but sub 90% save % & constant clowning, (or groaning), doesn't help matters.
bottom line, the contract was a mistake, this is the kind of contract you give to a Weber, Giroux, Perry kind of player, (although more $ in some cases depending on the player), etc. a focused professional, there should be no head scratching or soul searching, or whining.
Will be very interesting if there is an amnesty clause in the CBA & what they do with it. |

Great blog. This one is a keeper for the next time I get into an argument with the causal fan who just reads the inky every day, reads too much into bryz's media antics and wants to blame everything on Him. The 100 times I had the argument last year is just frustrating to say the least. I assume it will happen 100 times more when the puck drops next year (please no lockout).
Ok now back to he regularly scheduled program of silly season . . . |

I don't know what to think of the Bryzgalov affair. The summary of issues was really helpful in putting things in context. I understand that some of the problems are around the defensive core and the desire to upgrade the back end. Can the Flyers get the defensive upgrade they need and, at the same time, can they negotiate assets away for a top forward like Nash?
I am a big believer in the magic of Holmgren. But, it seems to me this is too big an order even for him. |

They don't need to do both of them.

Bryz just seemed to be out of position and had problems with his rebounds, he looked sort of like Pete Peeters stiff...I think a good goalie coach should correct his flaws |

I don't think the Flyers quite got what they paid for in year one of Bryz's contract ....BUT there were times, as you pointed out, when he played very well. The Flyers without their Top D were forced to play others to much and it showed as they wore down . That beig said, Holmgren obviously will address the D this week.
As for Bryz.....I am a firm believer he will be better and more consistent next year.
Should be a fun weekend.....really starting today. |

I'm not buying it at all. That stinks of an overpayment and this team has zero need to be that desperate for offense.
Personally I don't think the Flyers are going to make a big move until after free agency starts. Why trade all that away for Nash when you might be able to sign Parise without giving up a single asset? I mean jeez, I'd sooner try to sign Semin than give that up for Nash. If Carter was worth Jake and the 8th there's no way Nash is worth that much more... |

with nash, once you trade for him, he is yours, no guarantee of parise wanting to sign/play here....minnesota is on the record for saying that no one will be able to match there offer |
