you add kindle to a fire...and of all things to discuss that was your choice?

Great write up man, it looks to me that while there are players leaving there are some decent talent fresh faces coming in so while they may not be ahead or behind, hopefully the new players will eat up what the coach is selling or that they have good chemistry with their new teammates etc. Hudler to me will be a very good player for the flames.

Hudler looks like he will be a great pickup from the team. With his stanley cup and playoff experience, it will certainly add experienced talent to the club. Hudler didnt have all that much room to expand his skillsets within a deeper Detroit roster, and he will certainly be given the chances for added ice time and responsibility.

Wideman, we've discussed. Hes a potential replacement for Bouwmeester and for cheaper. He can put up points in the defensive end which was needed and should help. At 29, he has much to offer yet to the club.

you don't add kindle to a fire. you add kindling. i think kindle is a verb and kindling is a noun.

Thanks to all the guest writers that have contributed. It's so nice to have Flames material to read.

As for the signings, all should remember, these are all just parts of a puzzle. There is no quick fix but at least Feaster is adding skill and at the right age group. It may take a couple of more years before Feaster is able to realize his vision. It's a retool that could take as long as any rebuild. Either way, playoff exclusion may be a fore gone conclusion but at least in this retool, we will compete for the PO during that time.

Thats just it. The notion that a team MUST tank to better themselves isnt something most GMs are willing to accept. Granted we can all assume Edmonton *should* be a powerhouse in a few years, thats still left to be seen.

Keeping your team competitive and your fans interested is very important, but this must not be at the cost of the teams future. It does seem that Feaster acknowledges changes are needed, and the fact that hes remaining patient is nice to see. There were some CRAZY contracts being signed out there, and I dont think Feaster did too bad!

I expect more changes to come this summer as it appears Feaster is currently replacing a few parts to strengthen his "vets" if you will.

Whats needed is more youth, and Feaster himself noted that the team played best with the injection of youth. Just because his last signings were 25-29 years old, I didnt expect to bring much youth through free agency. Expect Feaster to shop some of the older, no longer needed guys for youth. This is where the aforementioned "retooling" begins...

Is it as simple and clear that you resign Iginla so he retires a Flame or is there more to it than that?

What do you mean?

Many believe the intent for both the team and Iginla is to resign and retire with the Flames...for me, it will all depend on where the team sits nearing the deadline.

If Feaster can add a few more skilled/younger players to the roster and they play into the new coachs systems thus doing well, they may look to resign....but conversly....if the team struggles or appears to be another playoff bubble team, I would hope they entertain moving him for much needed assets.

A guy I would love the Flames to inquire about would be Jamie Benn...young kid with tons of talent, plays the body and has size. Would be a solid addition to the team and is currently an RFA...very much doubt Dallas parts ways with him, however.

Other notables for me:

Dwight King
Colin Wilson
Tyler Kennedy
TJ Oshie

At the end of the day, Calgary has to start building properly. At that begins down the middle and on the blueline. I thought they did a great job with Sven Bartschi, but they really need to start addressing the lack of top end centers in the organization through trades and the draft.

I like the idea of Colin Wilson, as you mentioned, Colin, but I also think it's time to just strip down. Some of these contracts are laughable and downright asinine.

They certainly are...and the NMC's certainly dont help. However, with that being said, it seems as though this years plan is to replace a few older guys with better talent and still have years left to play. As stressed a few times, its still imo that guys like Jbo and Iginla, maybe even Kipper (depending on how the goalies do) should be moved to the highest bidder come dealine for youth.

They may like to tweak the roster and see what it brings, but even with the most recent additions, I dont see them being more than another playoff bubble team. And I hope for the sake of the franchise that they dont "try" to make the playoffs with moves, rather make moves with the future in mind.

Feaster had some money to spend, and got the guys he wanted. Hes looking to surround his current core with better talent and this helps now and later.

I'm sure there are many teams you can say that about. Philly, Mont, Buff all come to mind and I'm sure there are a lot more. But your the expert...

Young kid whos shown he can work hard...wouldnt be a big upgrade, but it would be another young piece to add who might add some spark to the roster.

I think it's crazy that people are still crying about the JBo contract. At the time it was signed how many teams would've gave that to him? 10 or12 is my guess.

Every team has bad contracts, there's no denying that. But Calgary is starting to look like a joke at times. That Wideman deal is outrageous. He's a 3rd pairing PP guy getting paid to be a top pairing guy, with a full NMC. How is that a good deal?

The Flames continue to get older (Iggy, Kipper aren't getting younger), and expecting results to change. That is the very definition of insanity.
