You cant trade a player back to the team he was traded from for min 1 year. Its in the collective bargaining agreement.

You can't trade a player you signed, but I don't think this is a rule about trades. I am still looking.....it's not the easiest thing to google.

If a player has salary retained then it applies. Haven't seen anything about traded players without salary retained

EDIT: Buyout players also have this stipulation about returning to the team that bought them out

have to think the league would have something to say about this. They want Vegas to be competitive and marketable and these trades would be counterintuitive and most likely squashed. If for some reason the league naively allowed the first trade to happen they would surely sanction both teams upon trying to reverse it.

This isn't about Vegas trading players...its about Arizona protecting players for a "fee" for teams like Anaheim.

Yeah OK, maybe if I was on salary and it was my only job. This is a fun what if idea. I still can't find anything specifically that says it's not allowed - but it almost certainly isn't.

Or maybe the coyotes could trade for and keep some good players for a change. But I do get you point.

I believe the Jets (now Coyotes) and the Flyers were fined for this back in the 80's with Pete Peters and Keith Acton. There are now rules in place to prevent.

No team is going to do that. The first trade Fowler & Silfverberg for futures? NHL isn't gonna let that trade pass. Second there is no way to force Arizona to trade the players back to the team. Why would they do that, they just got the steal of the century. Let's think logically.

I feel like I remember a pretty recent example where a guy was traded at the deadline and was traded back after the season.

I don't think the NHL can enforce competence. Even if a trade is drastically unfair, what can they say about it? It is hard enough to enforce rules like this in fantasy leagues.

As for making the trade-back, a gentleman's word is good enough, no one is going to violate that.

they did specify they would punish those who were blatantly circumnavigating the expansion process... that seems pretty blatant.

All I can tell you is that the history with the Coyotes show that they did this before and were reprimanded for it. I even cited the incident. It's how the franchise ended up with Shawn Cronin on their blue line.

I'm all for finding greasy loopholes but I gotta think Vegas would be happy to take picks to not select certain players. They have no farm system or prospects and have to build that as well as their NHL team, and it's not like they're going to be very competitive this year anyway. A few extra 2nds, 3rds, and 4ths should be worth way more to them than to any other team right now.

Tanner, isn't the combo for protecting players 7F/3D/1G or 4/4/1?

Either way, this is a great "problem" for the Coyotes to have. A few trades could either speed up the rebuild, or let them take on players whom are less desirable to their teams (like Kevin Bieksa) with picks or prospects to build the war chest. The cost for Carolina taking Bickell was Teravainen last summer, and there wasn't even an expansion to worry about.

Yeah you're right. I said it had to add up to eleven, and then wrote 8 instead of 7. I fixed it though, thanks
