The leafs have a bunch of dmen like him. Rielly, Gardiner, zaitsev and Dermott all play the same style and are better at it. Then add the two last first rounders are also offensive defensemen, there simply no room for him.

This probably means that Johns is going to start the year on IR and the Stars needed a RHD so Polak does not have to start and Heiskanen does not have to start the year playing his offside.

Bottom pairing guy at best. He's servicable but the Leafs depth just made him expendable. As others said, offensive dman who can skate and move the puck but we have higher skilled guys to do that and more on the way with the prospects in the AHL.

He will be a decent enough bottom pairing/7th dman and price was cheap for Dallas too so works for both sides really here.

True, hopefully Oz can bring that dimension that Carrick didnt seem to have.

Except he's not an offensive defenseman. The production isnt there.

Carrick had that offensive upside in the AHL, but it's never translate at the NHL level.
