Great game - well - except for that 3rd period.
Reminded me of Airplane!
Looks like I picked the wrong period to quit smoking/drinking/amphetamines/sniffing glue.

Could Milbury be any more of a (frank)ing moron? He is going on about how Nick Ritchie needs to step up and get in shape as he blocks 2 shots and gets a stick in the way of a pass.
Hey Mike. New. York. Islanders.
(frank)ing moron. |

Looked like a pretty good rush with Pasta during the NY game to me...Milbury is a feminine hygiene product. Man I hate NBC game coverage... |

THIS. He was ripping on him all night. Our d men got caught on a long change (about 2 minutes). Milbury proceeds to rant about how tired the d are and then says "and ofcourse ritchie is out of gas doing nothing". HE WASN'T EVEN ON THE ICE!! |

Milbury is garbage and I can't understand how he keeps his job.
BTW, Boston was clearly the better team during this game. Vasi kept it tight, but the Bruins deserved this one.

Can someone, anyone....explain to me how when called a major on the ice, the officials downgraded that cheap shot elbow right to Carlo's face to a minor penalty. How, HOW?! What in the video review showing the clear look back and planned shot to the head caused the call change?. The rule also clearly states for elbowing (the called penalty) that if a head injury results it "must" be called a major....Carlo is bleeding and was knocked out of the game. |

Not so sure it was planned. I think it was more a reaction to the pursuit. Definitely a penalty - but a major? ... debatable.

Strict interpretation of the rule says major...period. There isn't supposed to be any sort of judgement call in terms of intent or not, injury involving the head from elbowing is a major penalty. |

Any explanation from network or NHL office on why it was reduced then?
Maybe they (Refs) thought - after the fact - it should not be a penalty at all.
My understanding is they can't nullify it at that point - just reduce it.

Haven't seen anything from the league. Here's hoping it's just a broken nose (not that a broken nose is a great outcome) and not his second concussion. |

I don't really know if it was intentional. He is trying to make a quick play and his elbow came up because he was in tight on the boards. I understand he looks back but i think he is just trying to get rid of the puck quickly.
More unfortunate than intentional in my opinion but who really knows. Definitely a penalty but i don't think it was malicious.
Also, were talking about a player with 10 PIMS on the year. |

YUP, He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. he could feel Carlo on him and put his elbow back so he wouldn't get crushed into the boards.
The Major is questionable, kind of like what's a good goal and what isn't these days. however that PP goal was very important.
hopefully Carlo is ok, |

But that's the thing, it's not questionable...the rulebook is very explicit, an elbowing call that results in head injury is a major...period. Can question if it makes sense for it to be black and white but as it stands in the rulebook there is no grey area.

This is what I’m upset about. Forget about intent, High stick to the chin draws a drop of blood and it’s automatic 4 min. Elbow to the face, broken nose, gushing blood and they downgrade it to a minor!?!? Unbelievable. |

Agreed, rulebook aside...blood was drawn so how is it not at least a double minor? (I know why, because the rulebook doesn't allow double minor for elbowing...why? because it specifically calls for a major in the case of blood/injury). |

Elbowing - Elbowing shall mean the use of an extended elbow in a manner that may or may not cause injury.
45.2 Minor Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor penalty, based on the degree of violence, to a player or goalkeeper guilty of elbowing an opponent.
45.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who used his elbow to foul an opponent. A major penalty must be imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent (see 45.5).
45.4 Match Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgement, the player or goalkeeper attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by elbowing.
45.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct penalty shall also be imposed.
45.6 Fines and Suspensions - When a major penalty and a game misconduct is assessed for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100) shall be imposed.
If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).
NHL needs to explain this....I know I'm beating a dead horse but this is outrageous. |

It's not outrageous in the least, that you're asking.
Explanations should be provided.
Carlo won't play tonight because of that dirty play. |
