I thought it was just the Bears, but it seems like the Hawks/ Bulls also don't understand the value of accessibility to their fans. Spending 45 minutes at 10:00 on a Monday trying to leave the parking lot is a problem and it will make people less inclined to go to games. Who cares about green space?

Mrazek and Brosoit should be somewhere in the middle of the pack and with better defense in front ot them can be slightly higher. Goalies can only do so much and when you consistently out shot and the play is in your zone more often than not, it is not a recipe for success.

The green space seems to be the least of the new project. That's the part that doesn't make any money for anybody. And parking lots only produce so much, so it makes sense that they are looking at a way to capitalize on all that land that is only used on 82 nights plus the handful of events each year. Gentrification is expanding westward. If either ownership group is looking to sell, this becomes value added to the franchise(s), parking for the fans be damned.

Guessing more fans will be pushed to try the Green Line to and from either nearby Metra station, though that doesn't sound like fun when it's 10 degrees outside.

I just hope the new regimen Mrazek has keeps him healthy so he can play his best hockey for the next 2 seasons.

I can see them doing the same thing like downtown, underground parking, which actually would be warmer in the winter.

Seems in the last few years, goalies have been getting hurt more often (or at least I'm noticing it more). Maybe they are getting run into more often, or the styles make them more prone to injury. I hope he stays healthy too. It seems the team played with more confidence in front of him last year and it would be nice to keep some continuity.

I would take the Hawks tandem over:

San Jose (Blachwood-Vanecek)
Seattle (Daccord Groubauer)
Minnesota (Fleury Gustavsson)
Kings (Kemper/Rittich)
Calgary (vladar/Wolff)

That is just in the western conference. I also think they will be middle of the road

That being said as it stands right now the third goalie would probably be Soderblom, Hopefully Mrazek and Broissart will both stay healthy.

STL (Binnington/Hofer)
MTL (Montembault/Primeau)
PHI (Ersson/Fedotov)
CBJ (Elvis/Tarasov)
DET (about 47 guys)

These are all questionable as well.

Edit: Oh yeah... PIT (Jarry, Nedeljkovic)

Have to think Yzerman is up to something before the season starts carrying so many goalies. Guy can only claim 4D chess so many times before he gets run out of town. If they miss the playoffs this year, it’s Yzerover for him.

Not to mention, they still have to sign Raymond and Seider.

I think the Hawk’s goalies are just right for the current team. Both could be above average. Having two decent goalies allows for one two be injured without having to lean to heavily on AHL goalies. They need goalies that will keep them in most games and maybe steal an occasional game. At 31 and 32 with reasonable short term contracts. If they excel they could be resigned as Soderblom, Commesso or Gajan find their footing.

Which is basically one reason why I don't bother with the Athletic. It's not plausible, apart from the Hawks being bad last season.

THN did something similar, 'projected line combinations' -and of course Kurashev, for them, just has to play with Bedard.... chemistry, something, whatever they cited - it was a little lazy, in that there are at least 3 other options at this point, and I doubt 'chemistry last season' is a good enough reason to declare a fait accompli -ironically for the same reason that the Athletic seemed to have applied. Last season was last season, this season there is a different selection of personnel available, so why wouldn't you try some different things.

You don't understand Jerry Reinsdorf, only two things make him happy:

1) more money than he will ever need, and
2) making the common folk of Chicago miserable

And this plan satisfies both.

Gustavsson may turn out to be among the best goaltenders and he is probably ready to play more games in the NHL

Stan Bowman as gm of the Oilers?

https://x.com/BR_OpenIce/...YrAegtUDyAXE8uEQmSyA&s=19

With the team they put together during the offseason, they can win the Cup and he'll be a GM of another Cup winning team

That is a hell of a resume

I read the other day that there is some concern about those players living up the deals as well as the NHL having a retraction revenue wise or at least have a lot of debt to deal with. The source was the Detroit writer on this site.

Which brings me to the rant of the day.

The NHL is pretty bad at marketing and TV deals and generally making money. The WNBA and MLS seem to be better at selling their players and growing. MLS has better attendance numbers.

MLS has a 250 million per year contract but thats over 34 games and 29 teams. 986 games

The WNBA is going to get about 220 million per year over 40 games and just 12 teams. 480 games

The NHL gets 500 million (ish) per year but over 82 games with 30 teams. 2460 games

Per game - the MLS and WNBA have more value than the NHL if you break it down numbers wise like that. Kind of explains why the production value the ESPN side is pretty not great.

Also of note, Caitlin Clark makes more in than anyone in the NHL does in purely endorsements. Which is hilarious. Of course not reflective of total salary but it's pretty funny. 7 million \ year for her vs 5 million for OV and McDavid.

The NHL really needs an overhaul and more behind the scenes stuff to drum up interest like the hard knocks or welcome to Wrexham and try to get some of these guys some Nike deals. Like the great one had:

Bedard and Messi in an Adidas commercial would be a lot of fun since theyre about the same height.

Sort of like when he took over the Hawks, the core is in place. We'll see how he handles the upcoming signings of Draisaitl and Bouchard and the subsequent tinkering around the edges.

Yeah, they tend to eschew most individuality for the "team" concept, which on the ice is a good thing, but for marketing is rather poor.

Except he reports to the a president of Hockey Ops who was a former player agent, as opposed to a marketing person.

Ahh I'm gonna enjoy watching Stan destroy the oilers.
