Trevor Neufeld: Flames, Tyson Barrie Reportedly Approaching a PTO: A Truly Horrible Idea

Forgot to mention that the Flames will be holding a candle lit ceremony for JH13 on weds Sept 4th @ 8pm and plan on hosting some form of a celebration of life for him for 13 days at the same time from what I read from their website. May be something of interest for those that wish to head down to the west side entrance of the dome and show a little love n respect and honor a great young man. Check their website for more. I believe CBJ have something similar planned, at least for 1 day.

And Cole Caulfield has changed his # to 13 going forward out of respect for JH. Says JH13 changed the game for smaller players and out of respect he will use that # going forward.

I see no downside to bringing Barrie in, could be found money and if not, pfffft! He played for Huska with Backlund, could be a coaches choice. If he earns a spot it could allow the Flames to part with Andersson sooner than later, bringing in more picks or prospects. If he has a good year could be a deadline trade chip, Flames got to keep adding picks for the next few years.

What a turn out for the Gaudreau vigil, way to go Calgary! Tons of tears shed, such a sad time for their family.

Totally agree with Barrie, it's just a PTO & if he plays well(motivated), if we can snag a 2nd or 3rd round pick at the TDL then its found money. We're going to need to do a few of these either UFA or trade to weaponize our cap space.

I like the idea of players earning their spots. Barrie is fighting for his career, so he should be highly motivated. Ideally, this increases the competition for everyone, and no one is "given" a position.

Barrie could be that veteran offensive defenseman who can support younger offensive Dmen like Poirier or Parekh. If anything, maybe watching a guy with so much offensive talent have problems finding a job might motivate the younger guys to learn to play more defense.

Anyways, when does the young guys camp start?
