Is this why Tanger has struggled the last few months? I can't find any info on whether the issue he had would affect performance, or whether this was just precautionary against future problems.

A Ducks win tonight locks us out of 9th and we'll be 7 or 8 with Buffalo.

Then we get to root for Buffalo (against the Flyer) but we'd have to drop a point.

The talent drop off is after 8, though there is still the lottery to navigate. Guys after that aren't top ten picks most years.

The next time one of you YINZERS criticize Jim Rutherford for winning Stanley Cup's' please suspend yourself for a few weeks just to regroup.

YIKES

I think most here appreciate GMJR's contributions to those Cups. And even agree with him unloading assets to try and win more.

The one spot I might disagree with some is thinking that while he was doing that the team would still be competitive now with no farm system, but I was willing to make that tradeoff while the core were in their primes even if that meant their last year's looked like this or close to it with almost no margin for error.

He was incredibly streaky as a GM. When we won, everything he did worked. Then almost nothing did.

Sid's going to be on a mission to get Koi his first NHL goal, plus the Caps have nothing to play for, so I'm expecting a Pens win.

I sat and shook my head at every result last night. The majority of the games that would have helped the Pens especially in the east were shut outs for all of or most of the games.

Not mentioned but the Islanders also lost, not getting a point and changing the rangers pick from 10 to 11. I do believe PIT will get this pick as if it turns into McKenna next year not only will the Rangers GM be fired but his legacy will be ruined.

Tomorrow is MUST lose. They're guaranteed 7th before the lottery if they just don't get a point otherwise would fall to 9th if they win and the Ducks don't get a point tonight.

Oh, and shame on me, but also get well Letang. Hockey may have very well saved his life. Wonder if he gets the tests/treatments he has gotten in his life without being a pro athlete.

They would need Buffalo to get at least a point as well. Buffalo has one less point but would move ahead in a tiebreaker. If Philly ties us, we win the tiebreaker, so they draft lower than us regardless (pre lottery).

Tomorrow is a must win. Go out strong. (frank) draft picks that probably won’t work out. What they need now is bonafide top six wingers, proven guys. Groats and Koiv look like career 3rd liners at best.

Let me present how I saw this… Rutherford came in... Shero stood like a good soldier and told management that he was sticking with his guy Bylsma and he wasn’t firing him. If anything... Ya gotta respect that.

Although management saw it differently... he was out of here and he went onto New Jersey and won a Cup.

Rutherford claimed at the time - that he was only going to be here for three or four years and someone of Guerin, Botterill and/or Fitzgerald would take over management. At least that was HIS plan.

As plans go, it was very aggressive… and it worked. Pundits sliced it up left and right… while PENS fans got having the parades while laughing their ass off. Crosby has 1 CUP more than Lemieux… PENS fans have 5 CUPS. Forty percent of those CUPS came under Rutherford. To classify him in the same category as Hextall is a Mortal Sin in the hockey arena.

Just an opinion here. Please, don't beat up the messinger

Who are you arguing with? Who is comparing Rutherford to Hextall? What did I miss in the last thread?

If they win tomorrow and the lottery breaks wrong it is possible though unlikely they don’t end up with a top 10 pick this year.

What a failure these last two weeks have been.

So out of all the GM’s in the league that came from the pens organization (Guérin, Alvin, etc) who would have been beat for the job to actually keep and promote?

Somehow Fitzgerald. The way he split from the org made him look like a goober but he’s obviously good at his job

Let's see if I hot the tie breakers right. I believe 7-9 are all possible.

Anaheim at 80 points gets 8 or 9. If Pens win in regulation, they get the tiebreaker and move to the 9 spot becausethey have more ROW. But if the Pens win in OT, Anaheim has one more regulation win so the Pens would be in 8th.

Buffalo is one point behind the Pens but win any tiebreaker. So if they gain a point on the Pens, Pens will be in 7, Buffalo 8.

Don’t forget. It was all Botterill behind the scenes punching in Corsi numbers to the hockey computer. That was really the difference maker.

This is correct. They will go into the lottery in the 7-9 position because unfortunately they own the tie breaker against Philly and with a regulation or OT win, would against Anaheim

Just read the Rags blog. Sounds like the Rags are a mess. That was before this Panarin sexual assault thing. I'm betting they give us their pick this year. They could be really bad next season.

Yeah I was thinking him or Guérin. Guérin is pretty ballsy but fitzy has built a good team and is in a pretty Damm good cap situation as it starts to rise. Not his fault they can’t stay healthy.

I wonder if we could let them keep it this year and add top-10 protection next year if they take Graves?

JMO.... We need prospects more than getting rid of Graves. He's a sunk cost, but the cap is going up substantially. He might be a good trade with retention candidate. I'd rather go that route. Personally, I'd like to see if we can combine two firsts and move up if there's a player that's worth it. Get quality.
