So, who is the new Alexei Zhitnik?
I agree with going after Bogosian. I've liked him for awhile, now and would love to see the Flyers go after him. - Jsaquella
sign kubina to trade for Bogosian. |

I think it is a commitment, but one that will be a great move by the Flyers.
I honestly think Jake is our 2nd best forward, and possibly our best two way forward as of right now. I expect a big year for him... |

I think there is lots of disappointment among the fan base due to Holmgren's efforts not producing any impact players, he gets A for effort. Perhaps he could have sweetened the pot to entice Nashville to make a trade, but sounds like Nashville wouldn't come down from their asking price.
The Flyers still have a young, competitive team that will build chemistry. There are a few concerns including the health of the defense, as well as puck moving ability, but every team has some issues to deal with.
It will be nice to have some cap space flexibility at the trade deadline, there will be good players available and the Flyers can use the first half of the season to assess their needs. |

Given the deals signed by Oshie and David Perron in St Louis it's a tad high, but the 4 years is great. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Moving Forward, The Bogo vs J-Bo Model - bmeltzer
so this is how our team is going to look opening night?
Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Briere - Schenn - Simmonds
Read - Couturier - Fedotenko
Wellwood - Talbot - Sestito
Timonen - Schenn
Coburn - Grossmann
Meszaros - Gervais
I still think they are missing a scorer and a d-man, but this might be as good as it gets. |

Fans may be disappointed in the result, but there is nothing on the planet Homer could have done differently other than trading for Nash. Nash not a good fit here BTW IMO.
It was reported he offered the most cash to Suter and Parise, and actually got the biggest prize in years to sign an offer sheet.
If anything, one could criticize him for being overly aggresive. But even raising his grade this offseason is that he is unwilling to give up Schenn and Coots. |

Yup. He can't do it alone. More defensive responsibility from everyone in front of him is a must. Has to be a bigger commitment from the forwards defensively. It's not even that Bryzalov was terrible last year, it was more consistency that was the issue. Great at times, brutal at times. Somewhere in the middle for the full season is what fans want to see. |

I guess in the grand scheme of things 500K more per year isn't a huge deal, when you are talking about a cap that is around 70 million. |

The only one I am disappointed in missing is Weber. The bids for Suter and Parise were legitimate, but I never expected either to come to Philly in the first place. The same would go for Shane Doan. He'd be a great fit, but there's so much going on there that I can't really get too pumped at the possibility of him signing here, because like Parise and Suter it's a long shot at best.
I mean, we hear about the Flyers diminished capacity to attract free agents, but nobody says anything about Detroit or Pittsburgh. The Pens traded their best defensive center after he refused a 10 year, $60mm deal. He then signed an identical deal three days later with his new team.
Detroit was heavily in on Suter and others and lost out. Even just looking at the Atlantic, Pittsburgh and NJ have lost some serious firepower and are not as good as they were last year-which is what I keep hearing from the local media about the Flyers.
Rather than be disappointed I look at the stuff you mention, a good young team, talented kids that were held onto and can grow, plus cap flexibility to add to the mix as the season progresses. |
