Flipping through the past few installments of our annual Future Watch issue, I was struck by something: the Flyers are usually one of the worst represented, especially on the back end. Whereas most teams have at least one or two D-men flourishing as teens in junior, vying for spots on world junior squads, Philly’s top hopes were already in the American League, floundering in Adirondack.

Great blob, Bill ... as per usual.

I'm happy for the Bourdon signing. I think if the kid can stay healthy he'll log some big minutes for the Flyers this year.

JBouw hasn't worked in Calgary and will not live up to the hype. But I still feel like he can be a nice offensive weapon if placed on this squad.

I do agree, because of his contract, that I wouldn't give up more than a middling "prospect" for him. But I would be willing to absorb the contract because it they can afford to take it on this year with the way things have worked out, and they can likely afford the following season if Kimmo walks away.

I suppose this year the Flyers will be icing their own version of the Whiz kids. I can deal with a struggling season if it means longterm success. That's if this is in fact going to be a bad season, it's not like in 2007 when there were too many over the hill players, we're just looking at the prospect of struggling with a group of developing but talented young players. This team hasn't played a shift as constructed yet and looking at the free agent pool and available trade pieces I'd say plow ahead as is and see how it goes. There was a saying we had where I used to work, If you're scared, say you're scared.

I would like the Flyers to show some patience and not do anything drastic.....bring in a serviceable vet and push forward, no need to break the bank or empty the cupboard with an unwise trade.

it's not like he has to come in here and be the #1 guy (despite being paid like it)

the downside is that it likely kills the possibility of adding to the team down the stretch

It is not like there isn't any talent on this team. Even the young kids on defense have some talent. If you told me they would win 103 points with 9 rookies playing regular roles last season I would have told you that you are crazy.

They wont win the cup this year, but they will make the playoffs. And anything can happen then.

Patience Homer. Let the kids grow together. Look how fast and far they developed last year alone. And NOW, they have a much better idea of what to expect from a long NHL season. It is not as bad as some think, not by a long shot!

Go bloodwraiths!

basically would be like they paid Matt Carle another million that they didn't. IT wouldn't be the end of the world, I just think that capspace is wasted if someone better becomes available, via trade or whatever, and the Flyers can't get them.

the kimmo sitch is important. they may or may not know if this is his final year or not. if they know for sure that he's done after this season, then I'd really try to make the JBouw thing happen.

if he wants to come back and the trade went through, they'd have to get creative again.

There is way too much pessisim, and quite frankly, drama here.

Is this team any different than the one that beat the Pens? Not really, except we have Schenn.

Players get hurt and other players step up all the time. Look at the Pens record without Crosby.

I humbly suggest that you (collectively as a group) flip things and tell me what teams have more talent. Rangers? Yes, we all know.

Carolina? TB? Pens? Devils? Bruins?

What other teams scare you?

Personally, I believe that we are in that 3-5 spot in terms of talent in the Easter Conference. Come playoff time, who knows what will happen. Trades. Mez back. I may make an appearance in the lineup.

A number of wonderful things could happen. Don't be so negative. Have faith.

I do.

That was because he wanted to play in western Canada but it had nothing specifically to do with the Flyers. Things change.
