Nice take on the DD situation, especially when everyone is wondering about PK.

IMO, they need to get rid of Plek or DD.
I would lean more towards dumping DD.

I don't think they should sign Deharnais to a long term. They first need to test him another 2 seasons to see his consistency. Can he have the same impact with another 2 wings? You are already over filled at center. Eller, Pleks, and Gally comming up next year. Desharnais would likely drop to a 3rd line center trading either Pleks and Eller.
So the question is, is he more valuable than Eller or Pleks or Gally as a 3rd line center? I don't think he is.

singing DD to a reasonable contract now just makes him a more attractive trade chip in the future, if that's the route you end up going. signing him is more about protecting your assset than committing to him long term.

and what happens if you sign him to 4 mil for 6 years now and he only puts up 20-30 points a year when he does not have Cole and Pacioretty on his line?

IF they extend DD it will only be for 2-3 years unless they work out some kind of trade.
Pleks, Eller, Gally, DD are all C for the top 2 lines, unless Pleks in the latter stages of his career plays on a more offensive minded 3rd.
We will still have 1 too many C so we don't want to be saddled with a DD having too much term or $$$ on his contract.

I tried.

The translated version told me to worship the antiChrist.

The blog is irrelevant and boring.

the guy was a huge scorer in junior, ECHL and AHL. he played at a 40-point clip as a rookie bouncing all over the lineup. he scored 60 points in his first full NHL season. i think the odds of DD not being a regular 50-60 point centre are very small. will he put up 60 points with Travis Moen and Brandon Prust? no, he won't. but no one would.

or, what happens if we sign him just 2 or 3 years instead of 6?
Would you shut the (frank) up about Desharnais at the very least?

I wouldn't sign Desharnais to a long term contract yet. Give him a 2 yrs one and see what he does first.

And we will get another good top 5 pick next year at the draft. Might be another C.

Big mistake taking Gally with Reilly still on the board.

i think we need more top-6 wingers with size more than we need centres at this point. though we could definitely use some centre depth.
