The thing that really sucks is, unlike 2004-05, the drive to see a Phantoms game is considerably longer

Yup. Also the lack of TV coverage. They had quite a few Phantoms home and road games on TV that season; this time around the ridiculously overpriced AHL Live webcast package ($575.99 charge for the full season; $7 for individual games) is the only watching option in our area apart from going to see a game live.

Thats a joke right?

I have a good feeling about the meeting today (or tomorrow if it takes that long). Not that they are going agree to term and sign a deal, but that they will get closer to that... Crossing my fingers..

I don't mean to insult anyone by my comments, but being honest...

I have zero interest in watching the Phantoms or non-NHL hockey. I've been to some Phantoms games over the years, and I think they are great with the stuff they do for kids.

However, I find it hard to get enough time to watch the Flyers games, which by far and away is my favorite thing to watch on TV (sports or otherwise).

Again, I am not slighting anyone here, but I am sure there are more like me out there that just want the NHL to be back and its either all or nothing. I do admire those that can scout Swedish games and OHL games, etc.... I just don't have the time or honestly the interest.

I think we all hope the NHL will be on time. I'd be happy to offer my economic/mediation services for free if it would help.

Good day to all!

Cheers!

You are entitled to follow the game how you see fit. No need to apologize to anyone.

As for myself, I believe the NHL -- while it is far and away the best league in the world -- may be the center of the hockey universe but is far from the entire universe. There are plenty of quality hockey leagues, each with their own rivalries, team traditions and distinct atmospheres.

Beyond that, the game is played all over the world, including places you'd least expect. Perhaps my favorite article that I ever wrote was a story of the Greek national team players fighting for a rink to be built in Athens so that they could train to participate in the IIHF Division III World Championships (against all odds, they actually succeeded for a few years in being admitted to play).

Here's a bit of perspective. Do you know that a few hours after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in Philly, the ice was back in use for a local game? All those players cared about was their own game.

Hockey season truly never ends. There's a semi-pro league regular season getting underway in Australia (where it winter when its summer in the northern hemisphere) shortly after the Stanley Cup is awarded. In the northern hemisphere, there are summer leagues, and the junior and European preseason tourneys each August. The European regular seasons get underway in early to mid September. There's the CHL and NCAA, etc.

Personally, I love all of it. But I'd never fault someone who cares only about the NHL or even cares only about the Flyers. That's for each individual to determine.

Depends on Hovinen's adjustment to NA hockey, I presume.

If not, there is still Munroe (and Heeter).

Any word on Leighton's plans if there is a lockout? I'm hoping he can get some playing time somewhere.

Haven't heard anything. I assume he'll just sit it out. Will be particularly hard for goalies (especially backups) to find European teams.

Its too bad the Phantoms are no longer in Philly or even in Allentown yet. I really enjoyed watching many of the games during the last lockout and went to all of the playoff games.

I like Heeter a lot. Was a very good goalie at the college level. Went to prospect camp and thought he was one of the standouts during that week.
