I can't blame Giroux for being hesitant in choosing a path. First of all, like you said yesterday, he's apprehensive to play on a team that he doesn't know anyone. And second, the whole insurance and money issues. I'm glad he's taking his time though and choosing carefully. It always seems he never chases money, and always puts team, family, and his future before the cash. You don't see many players, let along young guys doing that these days.

It's a shame Cousins is caught up in the mess he is right now. I really hope he didn't do anything, and is cleared, but I certainly hope justice is served regardless. Sad part is, he seems to be showing some great talent so far. He could be a great asset to the Flyers within the next couple years if he comes out clear on the legal issues. At the very least, the Phantoms will benefit from his presence!

Another good read, Bill. Thanks for the Updates!

Let's say G plays with Jagr, they have the same chemistry--season starts in late december of January, Dallas out of the running for a playoff spot--Flyers pick up Jagr again at the TDL?

RE: The Acton-Peeters Rule

Dean McAmmond was a victim of the reacquisition clause when he was traded between Calgary & Colorado a few years ago, IIRC. He was not allowed to play in the playoffs. I felt that was harsh to punish the player who had nothing to do with his circumstances.

So, kind of random, but instead of a shoot out during the regular season to determine a winner. What about each side getting a 2 min power play with an offensive zone face off. If one group scores, they win. If neither or both score, each team gets a 4-3. At least the game is determined by a hockey situation.

This has probably been discussed at some point and many will probably hate this so ill just go stand in a corner now.

It's very possible, but I imagine Jagr would come up on other teams' radar at that point. Especially divisional rivals in need of scoring who'd like to keep he and G apart.

I'd still prefer the possibility of a tie, but that's probs out of the question.

Interesting.

I would love to get in to a "rules" discussion at some point. What do you think Bill?

For example:

I think that if a team is losing by 1 with less than 2 minutes at the end of regulation, or the game has less than 2 minutes left in overtime, they should be able to play out the entire power play. Also, if they get a major no matter how far they are down, they should get the full five minutes. Why should they get punished by not getting the full 2 or 5 minutes that would be allotted to them at any other point in the game? (Such as the carryover between the 1st and 2nd, or 2nd and 3rd)

I think it could add a bit of excitement to the end of a close game when a power play is awarded.

To recap:This would apply at the end of any 3rd period or overtime in the playoffs as well.

1. A team down by one goal gets the full power play at the end of regulation (or OT period in the playoffs) no matter how much time was left. If they score you play on as normal. (4 on 4 in regular season, next OT in playoffs)

2.A team gets the full power play no matter how much time is left at 4 on 4 overtime. Winning the game if they score. If not...shootout like normal.

3.A team gets the full 5 minutes of a major no matter how many goals they are down at the end of regulation. Sending the game in to overtime if they tie, (where they continue the major). This can also apply to the regular season or playoffs.

Imagine a team down by 3 goals gets a major powerplay with 2 minutes left in the game, and has the ability to play out the entire major to tie the game up or win it?

As would I. My order of preference would be a tie or OT until a winner is declared, whether that means standard hockey rules in OT, setting up the pp situation I proposed, or any other method of resolving OT in a game situation. Just not a huge fan of the shoot out from a practical stand point. It can be fun to watch but don't like that it decides the outcome. I know this has been rehashed over and over, but that's what I think.

I like the idea of the league not coming back until ties are back on the table.

Bill. I know we discussed this before without discovering the answer. But do you know what happened to Don Luce? He is still on the Front Office roster on the website at Director of Player Development, but Lappy was named to that position over the summer. Just wondering.
