Well said. I am finally annoyed by this whole situation. I had been sitting back and just waiting for it to play out but it has gotten to the point of ridiculousness. There is no need for ego to get in the way of a sport. If I wanted egos I'd watch the NBA or NFL. Damn negotiators/lawyers/players/suits..

It truly is sad this whole mess has halted what progress the league and players had started after the last lockout. I'm curious to see what the NHL will look like in 5 years, IF there is an NHL in 5 years. |

Bill,
Wanted to thank you for all of your work. Like many others, I have become very apathetic to the lockout. The true "losers" in this situation are the employees who work the arenas who will never be able to recoup the money they have lost because of this sword fighting contest between the NHL and NHLPA. Shame on both sides. |

This is becoming stupid. I'm not sure where I stand anymore with respect to sides...I just want the game back. |

I agree, this is just stupid. It's a shame that alot of the new viewership the NHL had probably just went down the toilet. This stinks and in the end I think the seaso will be ancelled. Both sides don't want to budge and really if they wanted a season both sides would try to meet alot more. It seems like the NHL wants to get a stranglehold on the NHLPA to make them agree to the terms THEY want them to agree to. It is a shame but in the end we all knew this would happen. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Winter Classic Iced, Phantoms/Titans Quick Hits - bmeltzer
I've washed my hands of this situation, I hope the lockout goes the distance of the season. Maybe this way Bettman will see himself getting fired because of this. At the very same time there are some pretty tempting free agents on the market at the end of this year (Getzlef, Perry, Iginla). Then you have Jody Shelley off the books. I am extremely disappointed but without a Winter Classic, the writting should be on the wall. More then anything I am disappointed in the young players in the AHL. With the lockout, I expected more from Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier. Expected the Phantoms to feast on teams. Younger brother schenn was very good for the phantoms last season
No Giroux encore for us |

I don't see Bettman getting fired. He is under the direction of the Owners. He works for them. As far as the Phantoms are concerned. 2 players aren't going to automatically transform a team. Hockey is a team game that needs all facets of a team to be clicking to be a top team. I haven't seen any of the Phantoms games. Have you seen any? I can't be critical of 2 players when I haven't seen them play, just simply based on the teams record. If the Salary Cap goes down, the Flyers are going to have a difficult time keeping the players they already have, let alone sign a top Free Agent. And they'll need more then just the money from Shelley being off the books.

the thinking and behavior of both sides (more on the league and owners AFAIC) is downright stupid, pathetic, and sad. it just boggles the mind.
i stumbled upon a junior game last night on nhl network, and could only watch for about 5 minutes. just depressed the hell out of me. - hammarby31
Both sides are to blame.
But I enjoy the junior hockey and have watched each game (only Friday's) that the NHL Network has put on. A shame Oshawa didn't have Laughton last night but it was a good game but a dominant 3rd period by Guelph. |
