Jeremy Jacobs, the man who made Raymond Bourque ran away from the Boston Bruins to win a Stanley Cup with a team not afraid to spend to have a great team.

Now Jacobs rules the Board of Governors but if I were The Commish, Gary Bettman, I would remove him immediately and get someone else in there.

How about Ed Snider? He knows how to get deals done. He's done it his entire life with Comcast-Spectacor.

At this point, I don't think changing who's on the committee would fix things. Both sides are so dug into their positions that it's hard to see how the gap gets bridged - and certainly, there's no way to do it and fix the problems in the 2005 CBA and not create new problems (which is exactly what the proposals on the table are guaranteed to do). However, because they're so dug in there's no way either side is going to back off of a position taken to reach a better deal.

If the goal is "get a deal done, start playing ASAP" then keep plowing ahead. If the goal is "get a deal done that works short-term and long-term and doesn't create new problems" then they're going to have to start from scratch at some point.
