I've been a pretty big supporter of Bryzgalov, but I think if there's any kind of cap amnesty buyouts, he's on the short list. |

Based off what? One bad year? I agree that if there were any kind of buyouts allowed the Flyers wouldn't have many guys they need to choose from, Pronger far and away being number one, but just chucking out Bryz? Doesn't make a ton of sense. If we want a Lundqvist or a Quick type goalie then Lavi needs to change his whole defensive scheme, not just the goalie... |

Not to mention that who is the starter then ? Leighton or Scott Monroe? |

I wish that during this lockout period Bryz was on a KHL (or other european) team that was giving him more consistent work so that he could get into a rhythm. From Bills reports, it is not clear that he has gotten enough playing time to build his confidence and establish a groove. |

I wouldn't even say he had a bad year. He started strong and he finished strong, he was just inconsistent through the middle portion of the regular season. You're right that better team defense will make Bryz look better, and the additions of Grossmann and Luke Schenn will help make that happen. |

Bryz would definately have to be looked at because we overpaid him. It is simply not a good contract to be carrying. |

Tretiak said that people "expect miracles" from goaltenders and that miracles sometimes happen but a goalie needs to be playing regularly to reach the pinnacle of their games and live up to those sorts of lofty expectations. - Bill Meltzer
I agree. Imho Bryz is the kind of goalie who needs a heavy workload to be at his best. 65-70 games per season is probably right for him. |

No, just go out and sign or trade for a top-shelf goalie. They are easy to acquire. |

I agree with this but I think Jsaq is looking at the hefty contract more than the player. It is a long time to be strapped down to anyone let alone someone who makes chernobyl look stable.
On the flip side I think the cooky bastach at least gives you some entertainment value. Also If not for his stinking chip fracture in his foot he I firmly believe he would have been one of the more notable goalies in last year's playoffs. He had I believe two of the Nhl network's top three playoff saves. Also I think we should have learned last year Bryzgalov is not anywhere near his best when he's given spot duty as the retired Russian goalie pointed out. |

I think with this CBA tho his contract is gonna look better maybe I'm wrong. |

I wouldn't have him at the top of my list, but he'd be on it. You have to have a plan B immediately lined up if you go that route. |

All I want for Christmas is my NHL back, my nhl back see my NHL back!
Gee if I could have my NHL back then I could watch Luke schenn make Crosby Cry!
It seems so long since I heard "Giroux goes high and wide to score for a case of tasty cakes!" Gosh oh gee how happy I'd be to whistle the "lets go" thing!

For the moment, it would appear the Bryz is being overpaid. But 5.6m/ season isnt HORRIBLE if he can be a little more consistant. If there's a way for Pronger's hit to come off the cap then it wont be as big of a deal.. |

Teams like the Flyers are going to feel the crunch from a new CBA if it ever gets signed. If he plays as he is capable of, then it'll be worth it. But if he doesn't, then the criticism will be worse once that crunch is felt. |

It's nice to see the Phantoms get back on track.
We're really counting on one of Bourdon or Gustafsson to turn into a legit NHLer. My money is on Gus.
It's also nice to see that Couturier is ready to generate offense when given the opportunity. And Schenn is 3rd in league scoring ! First if you take out all the Edmonton kids. |
