Happy New Year all! - TimBits
Sorry, I can't help but chuckle at your username and pic. One of my profs refers to his son as "TimBit" or "The Little Timbit" during stories.
Anyway, Happy 2013 to everyone! |

happy new year to all!
and ek you do realize that NHL headquarters in NY is actually a couple blocks away from times square where people congregated, and its not like people were standing outside the NHL headquarters to get any news
at least we know in 18-19 days the season will either start or be over |

This is the week. It's either make it or break it. I feel that they'll make the deal, because the players understand, that a lost season means a bigger haircut down the road. |

The NHL will not give any feedback to the union until the disclaimer deadline has passed.
That will eliminate the players from filing anti-trust lawsuits. Just as i expected the NHL would do.
So now that the players won't be able to take that route, they have 2 choices - accept a new deal or disband the union - the latter of course would take months upon months in court to clear that mess up.
So in other words, the NHL knows the PA doesn't want to go down that route which means the NHL is still going to come out on top because the players will have no choice but to sign this deal.
Make no mistake, the timing of the NHL's comeback is no coincidence, they want that Jan 2 deadline out the window before they make any other moves. |

That is all true. But the league is also bumping up against its own deadline for canceling the season and directive by some of the most powerful owners on a BoG that a canceled season is not an option. Basically, we've gotten to the point where the two sides have no choice but to compromise enough to strike a deal. |

Depends on how stubborn the PA wants to be in trying to get more out of the owners. The deadline for the disclaimer might be tomorrow, but they can always decide to decertify at any time, it takes a lot longer to do because of all the legal hurdles that are needed to do so, but that would mean more than just this season lost, probably the end of the NHL as we know it. |

If there are no walk-outs, pouting or posturing, an NHL deal will be done by early next week.

This is why they need to add a provision in each CBA that states if a new CBA isn't in place by the start of the upcoming season then that season will be cancelled... |

...............the lockout was worth it to both sides. They both win and lose nothing. The dollars lost this year in revenue and salary will easily be made up by both sides within the next 12 years. Happy new year NHL and NHLPA! |
