I don't think the NHL cares. The impetus for negotiations (finally) has been that the deadline on a viable season is rapidly approaching.

I don't know why people thing the players need to authotize the dislaimer of interest. They would need to authorize a decertification, certainly, but not this. From what I understood and what TSN confirmed, thiswould be the union management walking away from the players and that decision would thereby rest solely with Fehr & Friends.

Why is the pension such a big issue here?? The players are making millions of dollars. If they can't properly save for retirement then its their own fault, why should the owners need to subsidize players financial stupidity? This should be one of the things agents do to earn their money - ensure the players have proper planned for the future.

I would think most of the issues you mention as problem areas in regard to the pension would have been covered in the NHL constitution? The areas written about contraction and such seem to indicate that monies owed are recouped.
